Going to the greyhound racing in Sheffield on Sat evening, not been before, so any tips on how to pick a winner or is it pointless trying to look at form with dogs and just go with the name you like? How many races do they tend to have a night? Thinking I'll just have a couple of quid per race.
Its a great night out mate, when we last went trap 6 had most winners, with trap 2 next. I think there was about 12 races. Are you going in a group or just yourselves?
So the tip is to stick with 1 trap throughout? Large group of us going, not sure how many, should be a good do.
best betting between yourselves. 6 of you draw a number out each 1-6 and stick with the number you have, 5'er a race in the pot so the winner gets 30. better than giving it to the bookie. (5'er is just an example you can use any amount you want to)
That was my tip anyway! 6 was the lucky trap that night. Have a look at this mate. http://www.owlertongreyhoundracingstadium.co.uk/booking.aspx?offer=16
There is about a dozen races like Mark said and there is usually a min bet of five pounds per race. The Trap Challenge is a good way to make the money last longer. Do you know how to read the form? Like the numbers, times etc?
12 or 13 races depending on the night. Most folks bet on the tote as the betting booths are in the bars and restaurant. Min bet £1 Betting on the winner usually pays out diddly unless you put large amounts on, as the odds are pretty low with only six runners. Most people go for a reverse forecast, which pays a lot better odds but you have to pick 1st and second in either order. It counts as 2 bets, but for a couple of quid you can get some nice £30-£40 touches (or even more). There's lots of other bets, explained in the programme. It's good night out, although if memory serves me right, don't hold out for any real ales. One final thing, There's that much bumping and banging goes off in the race and the form guide is so confusing, you might as well stick pins when choosing the dogs
Cheers for that.....I wasn't expecting any real ale would be on, but might be something passable in bottles!
