A local skint football club figurehead taking time out to talk to the local media and promote his team? Get away.

he was right with what he said.

the parachute payments need sorting out and maybe you should have them from championship to league 1 as the difference in wages is shocking

That's the 2nd ever worse idea I've heard, only beaten by parachute payments from premiership to championship.

Isn't our budget for this year six million?

If relegation to league one costs six million, that means if we go down the budget is zero?

I doubt it! Ryan's figures will include the debt built up by the ridiculous decisions he and his directors made last season, like sacking a good manager purely because he didn't have the right agent, letting the agent bring in his own manager, and letting the agent decide who the club would sign on loan. Then wondering why the forever unsettled team were beaten quite often....

Remember this is a man who is so self obsessed he registered himself as a player and made Penney play him.

I live in donny and know a lot of donny fans. John Ryan used to be seen as an almost god like figure for what he's done for rovers - bottom of conference to championship.

He's pretty much universally ridiculed now. But at least he still shows an interest in his football club.

There is no doubting his commitment to Donny and his desire for them to succeed. I wish he was a Barnsley fan.

That certainly flies in the face of what I was waffling on abart last week

...about the Championship being the least financially rewarding league in the world.

But like troff said, there must be more to it. I can't imagine that Championship status is worth that much in revenue (and if it is, where is Barnsley's money?). Considering that a higher win ratio and potential promotion push when in League One would theoretically help gate receipts.

O'Driscoll's record towards the end warranted his sacking according to many Pikey's and it does make terrible reading.

Donny's directors did have short arms and long pockets...

I agree with Ryhill tyke the parachute payments are a joke. They are also unfortunately a fact.If parachute payments are paid to teams relegated from Prem, they should be paid to teams relegated from Championship. The whole system of parachute payments is leading to a 2 tier championship.Inflated wages and inflated admission prices, leading to lower gates at clubs like ours. The poor will get poorer.
