It was a really exciting second half as both teams made mistakes and chances were created at both ends. And its great to be able to say at last that we/England have won a football World Cup again (ok, even though it is the U-20's), so well done to them.
There's been some excellent performances from a talented team and individuals. Unfortunately, how many of these lads in the squad will make it to the very top in the game? Patience towards young kids' development seems to be a rarer and rarer phenomenon amongst club owners and some fans these days.
It does but that is caused largely by greedy players who would rather take a fat paycheck to sit on their arse than a lower paycheck to prove their worth and develop at a lower level.
It would be handy if we could grab one or two decent players from this tournament for a loan. But lets not forget if we over rely on loans again we'll end up in the same position this time next year. I hope that we (and this applies to all clubs in this league) still can tempt young players here for a half or full season loan, and surely if these lads have got their heads screwed on they will want that rather than just taking the easy lazy big pay check option. Agents will also play a big part in this.
It's certainly a big factor, but not the only one. Owners, boards and some fans put so much pressure on managers/ head coaches these days for immediate & instant success, that it's the exception rather than the rule to allow young players the time to develop into the finished article. Gaffers are rarely afforded such 'luxuries'. Some of the kids today do indeed appear to expect great wealth based on potential. I love to see the young 'uns from the Academy pushing for a place in our first team squad (and the Northern Intermediate team before that) & won't get on their backs when they make errors, as they surely will (just like young professionals in every job), advocating encouragement as opposed to unhelpful OTT criticism.
