Would start the season has 2nd choice. Probably decent wages. 1 year left on the contract. Forget what he was worth 18 months ago (alledgedly). If we'd had signed Muller on the back of his performances last season and paid £430k for him then this board would be in uproar.
I agree, made 230K profit on a second choice goalkeeper, not often that happens, (with the exception of Scott Flinders)
We can get another keeper We dont need back up like Muller, or the cost of him. Steele didnt deserve to get dropped and for me deserved to go into this season has number 1 choice. We can sign another keeper - Flinders back perhaps. Free transfer and lower wages. Yeah, he wont be has good as Muller, but he doesnt need to be.
and i repeat what if steele gets injured.nailed on we will get a 2nd rate back up you reap what you sew. i can honestly see this causing us problems next season.
Every club in the world has a 1st choice keeper and a lesser back-up. Is Carlo Nash as good as Tim Howard? Hilario vs Cech? Its a gamble, but a calculated low risk one. We've got more pressing positions to have higher paid players. Left wing. Striker. Centre half. Midfielder.
From his point of view. He's had a loss in wages since he signed of 30-40% - the swing in the exchange rate and now he has the chance to play in Germany's top flight. There are other factors he has to consider as well as being first choice. Let's hope Steele really is as good as some on here think. Apart from a very small number of mistakes Heinze has been a great keeper for us. Sorry to see him go.
RE: Agreed. nt If this is true then its a shame as he is a good keeper but I don't think the money is too bad. However, Ross Turnbull is not signing a new contract at Middlesborough and may be a decent replacement. I would also try to sign Kyel Reid for the left wing now he has been released as he is better than El Hamouir in my opinion.
Let's not forget that in Steele... ..we have a keeper who is not only very competent now, but at only 24 years old has enormous potential.
There's every reason to believe that he will get better and better as he matures and gains experience.

For a 31 year old who cost us peanuts, and looked to have been playing with no confidence in his injured knee, thats very good money.
I'm still very sorry to see possibly the best keeper I have seen in a Barnsley shirt leave the club.
Thank you Heinz all the best for the future.

Good luck Heinz you'll be sorely missed down at Oakwell. Never forget going crazy when he saved that penalty in the 90th minute Vs. Preston, one of my most memorable moments at Oakwell. Lets not forget the blunders this season though and he was right to be dropped, but really should have been dropped way before he was. Time for Mr. L. Steele to step up to the plate now, an adequate replacement if there even was one , just hope that if he does make a couple of mistakes at the start of next season folk down Oakwell don't get on the lads' back and start screaming for Muller back. Once again though, good luck Muller. Signed for £150,000 and sold for £430,000 - not a bad £280,000 profit; get it spent on a Striker!
