There was virtually no difference between yesterday and his usual sub par performances but for some reason he has now become a hero. To be fair to the lad I did see him thump his chest at one point and he went a bit mental for the goal so I suppose that's all you need to be a hero at Oakwell these days. Well done lad. Living proof that a lack of ability shouldn't stop someone from making a career in football.
I thought he was quite poor in the first half but improved in the second. I must admit that I have been surprised at the praise lavished on him by some on the BBS - but I guess people wanted to see some pay back from the Huddersfield game and Daws' work rate and chest beating gave the right impression. I'm not knocking Dawson at all - he did a job yesterday, worked hard and contributed to an excellent team victory, but he wasn't Superman either.
cant fault dawson for effort , his touch and passing aint the best , but he did a good job in midfield yesterday
Had a good game yesterday. I really don't understand your logic. So someone who puts a shift in, gets stuck in, breaks up play, looks to get the ball forward, is a bad player because he doesn't have 'ability'. What do yoy class as ability? Orange boots? Step overs? No Dawson isn't the prettiest player to watch, but 6 times out of 10 he does a job. Don't want to go around in circles but I'd rather have a player who fights hard like Dawson, than have someone with potential but never shows it like Mellis. He does have very orange boots though.
He doesn't break up play anymore than Perkins did. He runs around looking busy but with no sense or purpose and lacks the basic ball control skills required at this level.
You're as bad with Dawson as Hemsworth is with Steele. Dawson didn't have a technically good game, he never will, he's not a technically gifted footballer. He did run around a lot, but he wasn't running around like a headless chicken, he wasn't running around to no good affect, he was running around breaking up play, harassing the opposition when they were on the ball, tracking runners when they weren't, and basically stopping Forest in their tracks. He played a massive part in our victory. We all want to see players like Hignett, but we also need to get the ball off the opposition, break up play, hassle their attackers in to a mistake and Dawson did that all afternoon. He played a huge role in us keeping a clean sheet and his contribution to the game was every bit as important as Jennings' who scored that great goal. Football is a team game and Dawson was vital in that team.
Can't agree. If it wasn't for the events of last Saturday people would be saying he was no better than his usual league one at best standard. I'm not saying that we should have a team of 10 Hignetts but I would much rather see someone like Digby in there than Dawson.
Dawson was solid, Kennedy excellent, Mellis *****. There, that covers the only three players you ever seem to mention now Perkins has gone...
yesterday was a great win and a great atmosphere. so many positive things to post about, yet you continue to focus on your hatred for stephen dawson. i don't get it, at all. trust me, you'll get plenty more chances this season, to legitimately vent your spleen.
As I said, we can only imagine what that makes you. Have you ever started a BFC related thread on this board?
