Enough of Internet traffic shaping trials and being told a load of lies, cable Tv that works when it wants to and a crackly phone.
That I'm leaving the clutches of Blueyonder Telewest NTL Virgin Media for somewhere more reliable hopefully, where you are not told a load off ******** & lies.
RE: BS and lies? Here's the abridged version posted in blueyonder.feedback, have a look in blueyonder.support.access.hi-speed for all my posts.

BY has plunged since the merger with NTHell, and it's only going to get worse now it's virgin media.

I hope this works it's way to someone in BY Management, issues need addressing for those customers who are staying loyal to BY. Finally managed to rid myself of all 3 services from BY, after 4 days of trying. I used to recommend BY to people , but not anymore, after the shambolic way customers are treated. I'm now on my 4th day of a barely usable Internet service after being told initially my issues were being caused by spyware/virus. Then I was told my NIC Card was failing, then I was told there's a fault with the UBR, now I'm told the power is too high on the QAM 256. Spent 90 mins over 3 evenings on hold, trying to speak to customer services to cancel my account with BY, when I finally got to talk to someone I was told the 'system' is down. Someone would call be back though at my convenience. I asked for a call back at 8pm Friday 26 Jan. Someone did call at 3pm, not quite what I asked for, as I was at work, and unsurprisingly, no one called in the evening. It's a shame, I was a happy & content customer, but since November 2006 BY has plunged, in my eyes anyway. Download speeds dropping by 60% between 1700-2300 every night, although I was not included, in the denied then admitted traffic shaping exercise. Wonder what caused that then? It was strange how it only happened at certain times every night. Must be spyware/virus/nic card issues/UBR issues/power levels too high or low/contention/ too much retention/not enough retention/wrong kind of electricity/wrong kind of anything; as long as BY can blame something or someone else except themselves. I don't know, nor do I care anymore. Then we had the issue with the freezing picture on certain TV Channels, which still seems to happen, plus the pixelation - it's as if the signal is too weak, during fast moving scenes, you see the blocks, and the picture is 'grainy' on all channels viewed through the 'box' At least it's easy to reboot the set-top box, I do it many times a day. Anyway, I'm off to order Sky See, Speak & Surf for £26 per month. Considerably cheaper than BY. Having been a customer for 10 years of Sky before changing to BY, I never had to call their CS, wish I could say the same about BY. Even though their ADSL is not as fast (yet) as BY Cable, at the price, I can't really grumble. So, I hope this is noticed by someone within BY with some clout, things need addressing, like I've already said. For the existing customers, hope your services stay reliable and you don't have the issues I've had. Remember though, there's lots of alternatives out there, which seem to offer better value for money. I was happy paying what I was, as the service was beyond reproach, but not any more. Regards, an ex-BY customer

Ouch So what do you get with Sky for your £26?
I'm on the 3-for-£30 that gets cable TV (no premium channels), a phone line and unlimited 2MB BB.
From what I gather from the Sky deal, you have to rent a BT line to qualify, adding another £11 to the costs. So it's kind of the same as 3-for-£30 but more expensive and not as good?

RE: Ouch £26 plus £11 for the BT line. Because I was an existing customer, I could not qualify for the deal you are on, the 3 services I currently pay full whack for, which I don't mind, as I believe that you get what you pay for. But, I'm not getting what I pay for now, so I'm off!

I get lots more TV channels though, that I'll be able to watch with some degree of clarity, which will be nice!
As for the internet, it's a maximum of 8mb, which is slowerthan what I havewhen it works correctly, but at a £5er a month, I can't really complain. I'm not going to be downloading 546Gb a month anymore, and I spend very little time online now, compared to what i used to.

So, hopefully, it's a win, win situation.

Not had any issues with Blueyonder But I can't speak the same for their other services. When I first signed up to Telewest it was because I wanted broadband, the salesman tried to get me to go for their TV package to replace Sky but there were channels that weren't available on TW that I watched on Sky (the most notable at the time were NASN and Sky Sports Extra, which TW have since got), so the salesman realised that he wasn't going to get me to move my TV supplier. He did, however, offer to give me the basic channel package for free for 12 months to have in another room which seemed a decent idea (well he said for free but that never turned out to be the case!). It's just as well this wasn't our main source of TV though as every day the picture would freeze when trying to switch channels and could only get around it be resetting the box. Had the box replaced 2 or 3 times and still kept getting the problem. Suffice to say I soon got rid of it.....when I got Sky+ we had multiroom for 12 months with no problems, yes my Sky+ box will need resetting from time to time, but I tend to do it once a month, not when it needs doing but just by matter of course which then seems to prevent it freezing up when trying to watch. As for the phone, the line was notably quieter when it was installed than what it was previously, yet when I phoned up about it they suggested I try a different phone plugged in as it could be the phone - so last week I had BT then I switch to TW and the line is quieter so first thing is that it's probably the phone!
I'm switching too this week on the 31st,prob get another blueyonder sales rep trying to talk me out of the deal, but the service has gone down a hell of alot since the merger.I was very happy with cable but i got rid of the cable tv first no good.Broadband was one of the best now that's playing up so i'm going onto the BT package.Phone first then i'm looking for a better internet service provider.Looking at sky with the max package in mind,or if any of you know of good isp let me know thanks.
I live in Germany but have flat in Dodeth and ship my sky box back and forth. no internet in Dodeth never been worth it as I'm mostly over her. Sky have an offer for £5 a month which would be worth it for me has anybody tried it? Means a lot to me as I miss you lot when I'm over in UK.
we use BT broadband and it's quite good. not amzingly fast but I've never found myself think, "this is really slow today." we did have a problem once, can't remember what it was but we called the customer services and it was all sorted out within a phone call. And, as it's a large, well established company like BT you always feel like you won't be conned in any way or something like that and the support will be good.
