Just read his comments from yesterday's programme on the official site and he says that the club is to suffer another loss for the financial year ending 31 May 2005 but not as much as the previous year. Just what sort of state did this club get itself into for it to be still loosing large sums of money and will it ever be finacially stable in the near future??

I think he said he's hoping to have the club sustaining itself by next year or the year after.

At the time that Ridsdale took ownership

The plan showed the club losing money over 3 years befire finally breaking even. As far as I can tell we are more or less on track for that.

I think we can safely conclude the club was in a pretty dreadful state 2 years ago

    Well in my uninformed opinion

    A combinination of several factors

    1. Signing players on long expensive contracts - based on anticipated income from ITV Digital

    2. very poor signings - meaning that above players produced poor entertainment value and led to drop in support and also fall down the league

    3. Poor financial controls and refusal to accept help from outside

Ultimately responsible for the above - the Chairman and directors of the time.

Things got much worse with a disasterous administration period where a buyout financed by the Stirling Consortium was always going to be bad news.

Think Sterling and Robson Rhodes (Matt Dunham) made the situation a whole lot worse than needed to be. Old hat i know but why didnt the origional board take advice from elsewhere as to ways of raising capital, after all we owned the largest amount of land that any British football team had at that time.

Feature on Ridsdale in yesterday's Guardian.

    Timed for the visit of Cardiff to Leeds. And I quote;

"Ridsdale then spent a year at Bradford before moving to Cardiff City"

Nice. Same school of journalism as Knob, obviously.

I honestly laugh at the standard of journalism in the national press, it is sometimes utterly useless. Normally factually, but occasionally grammar too. Pitiful.

None of what Mr Shepherd says about the financial position...

and losses is "new". Peter Ridsdale forecast losses of £3M, £2M and £1M. It would be good to remember that

He did, but it does seem that as of Christmas last year that BFC were worse off than PR had estimated.

That meant the new regime inheriting a worse financial position than people probably thought.

I for one am happy that we seem to be improving things financially off the field and yet the board are supporing the manager when he wants to strengthen the squad. ie Devaney, Hayes, Howard etc.
