He's done alright I think, in a very difficult job. Always likes to keep the fans informed. How many statements/interviews did we get from Dennis?

Thumbs up from me, and he was right to show Ritchie the door.(Y)

    Lack of signings under Ritchie

Personally I think it was just AR being determined to let his current squad have more of a chance than it deserved. However, some people felt that the lack of signings was due to Shepherd not offering money. But I definately think it was more to do with Ritchie refusing players.

I'm Not convinced about Shep as a football chairman

They say he is working at the club for nowt - which is a good point and shows he is dedicated to the club
It also seems he has put the club onto a better financial footing
I've met him and he seems a decent bloke

    BUT

I don't think he knows much about football people and fans. A prime example of this is the delay he has in getting important news to the people who support the club ie. the fans
A chairman (or owner) is the most important person at a club because it is they that appoint the staff.
I'm not 100% happy that the directors will choose the right person for the managers job.
This is because there isn't any one of the directors that knows football inside out.
I think its important that the directors talk to as many football people as possible before making this critical decision

I don't think people hate him...

Just the issue of honesty and integrity - the questions have been asked.

Keeping Ritchie away from Wednesday only to sack him two weeks later when the potential job had gone - that was dodgy to say the least.

The whole way in which he criticised Ritchie in the media so publically was an embarressment to the club.

The way in which he handled the McIndoe transfer was very poor - and there is still the evidence to suggest that Shepherd was less than honest and forth coming about that situation.

The appointment of an assistant manager prior to a manager was confusing.

The way in which he releases information to the fans can be called into question - and to say that he isn't always up front and straight forward is an understatement.

Barnsley never announced the new guy as the assistant it was Bury.

McIndoe wanted to leave, what can we do?

so he isn't assistant manager then?

And I think you'll find that BRF says that the way the McIndoe transfer was HANDLED is why some people are sceptical, not that it happened.

And by that I think he is referring to the fact that it was obviously signed before 5pm as per league rules yet was the only transfer to not be announced until later that evening and also the apparently conflicting reports as to the time frame of the dealings with Wolves.

An important thing to always remember..........is this

No matter who you are......if you are a football club chairman........you are going to get some stick from the fans
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Abromavich hasn't had some stick off the fans at Chelsea
Yer can just hear it can't yer - "whats he bought Shevchenco for when we could have got Ronaldinio for the same money"

Thats just the nature of the business :) :) :)

No he isn't! He is Assistant to Simon Davey.

    Which would you prefer

the Chairman spending 5 hours trying to dissuade the player from leaving or just taking the first offer made by Wolves and announcing it early doors just to keep the fans fully in the picture?

Ah so he isn't the assistant manager then, he is the managers assistant.

[*]Manager's assistant (football wise) = Person who assists the manager in a football sense.[*]Assistant manager = Person who assists the manager in a football sense.[/list]

What point are you trying to make?

that the club shouldve insisted on Bury editing their website? or that we shouldve announced something a few hours earlier? just as it was announced people on here were asking how many jobs Davey was actually performing, then he brings someone in the same people are complaining about it. cant have it both ways.

but carry on sniping and tenuously making connections and assumptions based on you're own point of view only. thats what keeps this board going after all.

what point am I trying to make?

I think that is pretty obvious from these two sections of my post

The point I was trying to make was just an expansion/explanation on what I THINK BRF meant in his post.

Still you can always pretend that I never said those parts then assume that I am taking a personal dig at the chairman when in fact I am merely explaining what BRF said because Tykeman completly missinterpreted it.

And for the record, yes, I do think that if Ryan Kidd wasn't taken on as assistant manager then a "contrary to reports from bury football club, Ryan Kidd is not assistant manager at Barnsley FC" would have any confusion straight away but nobody is perfect and hindsight is a wonderful thing.

    RE: Which would you prefer

Why was it not announced until 2 hours AFTER the deadline. Obviously the deal must have been concluded BEFORE 5 o`clock, so therefore WHY the at least 2 hour time lapse. If the deal was only concluded at 7 o`clock then it is against League rules and if it was earlier , then why not just come out and say so. I dont think that anyone on here actually hates Shepherd, just slightly distrusts his dealings with the press and supporters.
