I pretty much exclusively read science fiction/fantasy so not really. The only kind of mystery book I remember reading was 'Amnesia' by Sinclair Smith which was pretty good. However, it was a Point Horror that I read when I was about 13 If you fancy a change of scene I can't recommend Robin Hobb's books enough - especially her first series Fitz and the Fool.
I would second that. The inspector Banks novels by Peter Robinson are very good too. Don't be put off by the fact they were dramatised by ITV.
Agreed...the books are far better than the telly version. If you want any second hand/pre loved for free I've most of em waiting for transportation to a charity shop/new owner if anybody's interested (Clive Cussler, Stewart Pawson + others )
The Roy grace novels by Peter James will not disappoint. And check out Birdman by Mo Hayder Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Carl Hiaasen's early works are hilarious crime novels, that's; Tourist Season (1986) Double Whammy (1987) Skin Tight (1989) Native Tongue (1991) Strip Tease (1993) Stormy Weather (1995) Lucky You (1997) Sick Puppy (2000) Not read the more modern ones and they're not meant to be as good but Bad Monkey (2013) is meant to be a return to form.
Roger Silverwood, who is a local author from Barnsley, writes some decent crime books. His book Salamander is going to be free on Amazon kindle from tomorrow until the 30th. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roger-Silverwood/e/B001JRYN0G
Anne Cleeves books - crime novelist based on the Shetland Islands. Not murder/mysteries but you'd like the books of Patrick Gale. books to avoid - (1) anything by Hilary Mantel - far too academic and detailed - like wading through mud (2) the Harry Potter books
Worst crime fiction I've ever read. Completely unbelievable initial premise and the whole plot hangs on this.
