I just did a system restore then altered the settings so that I could select the updates. Worked fine then but dont know if M/Soft have stopped you being able to do it now. </p>

if you call microsoft and tell them you can get a full working license for 90 squid. Its cheaper than buying the full product! Crazy. Say you bought the pc 2nd hand and it was on and now you are gettting this. I think the number to call is given to you on the genuine windows screen.

 

It doesn't normally stop your computer from operating. Are you saying that is does?

To be honest, you are better off sorting yourself a valid copy out. This can be done over the internet without need to re-install any of your software. There are several benefits to doing this including Windows Update; IE7 and Windows Defender amongst other things.

PC came with XP installed but since I've reformatted and installed XP it's not allowed me to use the serial number which was given to me by dell.

What do I need to do to have my windows xp activated?

Are you using the DELL Recovery CD that was supplied with the machine?

The Product Key will be stuck to the side of the case.
