How many clubs does he 'support'? <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Before you all ask I have a box at Mk dons my local team but ill be shouting for Barnsley all the wayToby tyke till I die</p>— Darren Gough (@DGoughie) <a href="https://twitter.com/DGoughie/status/295596173308354560">January 27, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I'm not sure why folks keep dragging this up? There are loads of people on here that have another team other than Barnsley.... Plenty of Cricketers are interested in cricket only, and have a passing interest in football. What's the problem with Goughie? He's behind his home town club, he's probably not as fanatical as some of us.
Most have a second team - thing is with Goughie we are his second team. Turns up for the big games though - he even got the year we were promoted to the Prem wrong in his book
I only have one team, I might go and watch my local teams but I'd never choose them over BFC, and regardless of their result it never dampens the feeling of hurt when we lose.
My point being... does it matter? He's a cricket bloke. Loads of cricket players I know only have a passing interest in football.... because cricket overlaps with the football season, and they've made their choice. I suspect an international player has even less time to get his facts right about what happened where and when. If someone has a passing interest in BFC that's fine by me. It's not as if we have too many fans.
As a kid I liked Man Utd cos of George Best, but one fateful day in 1972 my dad took me to see Barnsley draw 0-0 with Hereford...and that was that, I had a near miss if he'd been home from work 30 mins earlier we were gonna watch Wednesday...I couldve been a Wendy..my dad supported no-one liked all the local teams...good job Barnsley kicked off at 3-15 in them days...
I'm with you fired. Goughie just likes his sport and takes an interest in a few teams. Like you say cricket is his day job. If he lived in barnsley I am sure he would come to more. His work is elsewhere though. He is a fan just not like some are. Everyone welcome IMO.
Doesn't bother me if he doesn't support Barnsley but don't get your face ion all papers/ TV when big games come around. Look at me I support Barnsley ......
But he lives and works elsewhere? He's in a business where he probably benefits form meeting people at a sports venue. What's the problem? WHat is the problem with a successful person from Barnsley who has spent the majority of his life working out of the town/ out of the country, spending his leisure/ professional time somewhere close to where he lives? What is the problem with that person showing an interest in other clubs? He's come out and said he's supporting Barnsley. He's not a die hard fan, why should he be? I just don't see the problem.
Worst possible argument to use against me, mate. Any sign of success at BFC and suddenly he's a "proud" BFC fan.
Is that his fault though.... every FA cup tie the press are on the scout for Dickie Bird/ Parky etc. It's a cliche. I'm pretty sure Darren Gough doesn't give two hoots about media coverage. To be fair I couldn't give a monkeys about Goughie, Parky or Dickie Bird, other than I can't stand it when folks jump at the first opportunity to drag them down. They are what they are... people from Barnsley who have become famous. Don't see why them showing a bit of connection to their home town is a problem. In fact I see it as a good thing. (This is not directed at you by the way).
I know! So do I! (It's a MASSIVE distance from Sheffield) People have different agendas, but we're all Barnsley in some way.
I made my feelings known on twitter, and he replied. only on here a guy comes out and says he's behind us all the way and still fowk are prepared to pull him apart . Loads of people who live away and don't have the time to travel weatch a team closer to themseles. Must be great if you come from Barnsley and make a name for yourself because people just line up to stick the knife in. (Parkinson excluded because he milked his upbringing for all it was worth and then dropped it like a stone)
