The trouble is this one virus if not dealt with will & has filled our hospitals to breaking points, whilst GP"s stopping doing minor checks such as MOT"s on the over seventy fives etc etc is time consuming & non urgent .
I understand the theory behind that I really do. It's just little comfort for those who lose loved ones as a result.
If only we had a government that believed in the NHS and stoped telling barefaced lies about it, 40 new hospitals my arse to name but 1.
I am not sure how you would lose someone from missing a random check up , surely as an individual if there was something wrong with you then you would see a doctor anyway but to miss having your weight , blood pressure etc checked hopefully would not lead to loss of life .
And weren’t determined to send all those pesky foreigners back who are taking our jobs that should be done by white British doctors nurses etc overlooking the minor flaw that we haven’t trained enough to fill the gaps. Also it’s all well and good delaying things until March but by then the next variant will be here and we will delay again
Not everyone does or realises they have something wrong that is picked up on a check. Hopefully it just stays as very minor or things being stopped as the devastation from shutting down huge parts of the NHS last year was awful.
Random check-ups can and have found things, often serious, that otherwise would’ve gone unnoticed and therefore gone without essential early treatment. It’s just plain incorrect and irresponsible to assume that the patient is always the first person to know there is something wrong with them, especially in older folk where often they just put things down to ‘old age’ and just carry on as best they can. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is now been designated an area whereby contracts can be ‘handed ‘ to private care. All stinks to high heaven with these corrupt b’stards in govt
To be fair I have been called in on Monday for a routine >40 check up of my blood pressure. The surgery called me and I told them I was able to check it at home and had no concerns. They were quite insistent that I attend so that it was "on your records". I heard a news story on BBC news the day after the call, about how GP's need to get these done to get their funding for next year. I'm wasting my time and theirs on Monday for box ticking for funding. I don't blame the GP's for that - they need the funding to pay their staff. But priorities are completely skewed there. Just ignore the tick box for now, give them the funding and let them vaccinate someone in that time instead.
That’s strange. I always take my blood pressure at home and send in the readings. I suffer White coat syndrome and if I take it in the surgery it’s at least 30mm higher than at home. (I did take my home kit in to the surgery and compared readings with those taken by the practice nurse and they were almost identical Regarding the cancellation of routine stuff. That is short sighted. It’s known that routine screening is very cost effective and beneficial to patients as early diagnosis is usually much easier to treat
Only covid matters and nobody in the government or the scientific advisors are mentioning this horrible stat. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/...statistics-marie-curie-ian-jones-b965166.html
Don't forget all GPs are completely private too and all have their own agenda. I was sent to hospital recently after a video consultation, which turned out to be a broken elbow. The nurse explicitly told me the scan could have been done in 5 minutes at the GP and that they were passing the book, she used those exact words. The hospital, it turned out, was completely overrun that day. There was a second 'waiting room' outside on the benches, old folk sat in the wind and rain. They also started turning away walk-ins half an hour after I arrived, and then we all settled in for the hours-long wait. The GPs are passing people on and the hospitals are overwhelmed as a result.
The NHS aren't in a position to do everything, cuts to staffing and failure to recruit and retain staff all overseen since 2010 by the party with the blue rosette.
Agree 100%. It’s frightening how many people will die of other health issues. Actually see a doctor? Not much chance of that these days or anytime likely in the future.
Not sure GP’s normally do X-rays. Though some, not all,do ultrasound scans. It is a postcode lottery though. In Farnham there is a community hospital and health centre where you can get referred for a walk in x-ray. When I broke my wrist I I was in the hospital for around 20 mins to get an x ray and then the radiologist looked at it and sent me on to A&E at the main hospital. A lot of GP’s are also swamped
They’ve done very well then cos I don’t know many that have for a long time. Telephone appointments only at most surgeries.
Mine do face to face if needed. They triage and start with a phone call, but if needed they then tell you to come in.
