On his way out according the The Mirror artcicle (below). But what I want to know is - who ever decided that he was a good manager? What has he ever achieved? With the size of chequebook and standard of the opposition during his time at Rangers, Thora Hird could have at least steered them into Europe every season. South of the border, an FA Cup win with Liverpool which saved his skin (until they were knocked out the following year by Bristol City), a league cup with Blackburn and that's about it. Oh, and I think he won the Turkish Cup with Galatasaray. FFS, I reckon half the people on this board would have made a better fist of most of the jobs handed to Souness. From The Mirror FREDDY SHEPHERD is ready to sack Graeme Souness - with Sam Allardyce prime candidate to take charge at St James' Park. Souness's reign at Newcastle is doomed after Saturday's home defeat by Blackburn and he is expected to meet the chairman today at the Toon training ground. Bolton boss Allardyce is thought to be ready to take the job if it is offered. But in the short term Glenn Roeder and Peter Beardsley are likely to step in as co-caretaker bosses. Shepherd and vice-chairman Douglas Hall will have to act after fans staged a mass demonstration against Souness on Saturday.
When he was appointed Newcastle boss I was thinking that he was going to make a real mess up there, like he has done with almost every other club. I thought it was only a matter of time before these stories started to crop up. But i'll be completely honest here. I really feel sorry for him this time. Brought in some good players, and all he has had since day one is injuries. Not once since he went there has he been able to choose his first choice players. And when there is no continuity in the team, there is never a chance of players bonding and gelling like a good team needs. I, for one, hope he is given til the end of the season.

I'm not sure if tis is true, but stories abound that Souness runs his teams into the ground in training. He was plagued by injuries at Liverpool and Blackburn and a number of coaches seem to think that overworked players are more susceptible to injuries.
Is there a link ?
