Barnsley are closing in on Charlton striker Andy Gray after the Addicks accepted a £600,000 bid for the former Sunderland man.

The Tykes had been linked with the 31-year-old two weeks ago but now appear to be on the verge of completing a deal for Gray after agreeing a fee with Charlton.

Gray will now reportedly travel to Oakwell this week, where he will have a medical and discuss personnel terms, before the deal goes through for the former Burnley hitman.

    Good signing in my opinion...

If it comes off of course. Would work well up front with Bogdanovic.

    RE: Finally

Medicals are designed to ascertain whether there are any major underlying fitness/injury problems which are likely to prevent a player playing in the future.

For example, a weak hamstring that has regularly torn may prevent someone passing a medical, yet a foot broken for the first time is unlikely to be due to something which is any more likely to flare up again than for anyone else.

I alas wondered, because didn't we sign Brian Howard with a broken leg, and to me that seems as if it would be hard for him to pass a medical lol

Richard Kell comes to mind from Scnuthorpe, was signed with Hayes. We signed him when he was recovering from a severe leg injury to see if he could prove his fitness?

He didn't and i can't remember him ever playing a game for us.

Getting boring nar all this Gray talk in the press. Different press outlets have said for days now we are going to sign him. About time we heard he had signed.

We got Dennis Souza because of that. Souza's agent was also Kell's.

    Signings In General Is Poor

We have lost nine players since last season and replaced them with a developmental player and a reserve keeper that's hardly played a first team game for years. Not good.

Are totally skint as Jordan isn't putting any money in as he wants to sell.

Muller, Van Homoet, Souza, Hammill, Teymourian, Leon, Mifsud, Rigters and Letheren all left the club since last season finished. I make that 9.

I'm not making the point as to how big a loss they are, just the fact that 9 players who were in our 1st team squad have gone and been replaced by 2. Even if we bring in the 3/4 signings that are a minimum in my book, we will still be kicking off the season with a smaller squad than we finished with. And we only stayed up on the last day last season. It's to be hoped these toungsters really can step up to the plate or we are in big trouble.

from what i've sene and heard, potter will be able cover for kozzie and RNL and Adam will start progressing towards first team action on a regular basis. Butterfield will get a game or two as well in midfield. And to be honest id rather have 16-17 seasoned pros as a first team squad then 5-6 youngsters in a development/reserve style squad pushing for the first team above having the extra space filled by expesnive seasoned pro's.
