"Great assist from Butterfield" - I can see this lad being the new Howard

Discussion in 'Bulletin Board ARCHIVE' started by Gloucester_Red, Jul 25, 2009.

  1. I thought it a couple of seasons ago and he should only get better but the problem is how many games will he get. I really think he has a big future so let's hope we don't mess it up with him

Yeah i hope he gets a decent run this season

  4. If we don't import somebody I imagine he will start the season

A good few games under his belt and we might have a proper player on our hands.

I watched a lot of the reserve team home games last season and a couple of the away games.

Butterfield has always been very good on the ball and against the teams that give him time and space, he will play many a telling pass. He has two good feet and good vision.

However he does not tackle and looks short of pace and strength. Picking up and tracking back are not his forte.
He may be more effective at home or going off the bench. But don't expect too much of him on a wet and windy Tuesday away at Reading or the likes.

As much use as Diego Leon then in a Championship side.

Very similar in a lot of respects, although Butterfield rarely tries to run with the ball.

I must be watching a different player. At Bradford today he had the most anonymous game since the likes of Peter Sand and Jimmy Mann pulled on a Red shirt

    More like Mcphail.

Spent the majority of the game in the centre circle playing neat passes but very rarely actually got a foot in or bust a gut to get back.

i thought he was very quiet today, looked decent in the opening 20 minutes, but then didn't seem to get much of the ball. Over the pre-season though he's looked good and Davey's promised him more 1st team action this year so maybe he'l come on strong.

Sorry to be Mr Doom but this lad will not be the next Howard unless you're talking about Frankie. No pace, no power and not good enough for the Championship I'm afraid, never will be.

The sun must have been in my eyes

Because I never saw him after the first 15 minutes.

He looked alright in those first 15 mins and does have potential, but I think you are light years away saying he could be the new Howard.
