11 league games in Flitcroft 20 pojnts, Wilson 11. And to think Flicker managed that with one loanee from the Premier League and shelling out no transfer fees. And now he looks like he is going to repeat the trick with Bury, where he is fighting a similar budget battle. Think he'll go down in history as our only true legend of the last seven years for saving us from the drop in the way he did.

    Respect the Rochdale Two

2013-14 Relegation Certainty v A Chance of Redemption

Flitcroft - 17 league games, 11 points, 0.64 points per game, which left us rooted to the bottom of the table 6 points from safety.

Wilson - 11 league games, 11 points, 1 point per game, which would have seen us in 20th position, 4 points clear of relegation had we produced that form over the entire season. As it is, we're now just two points from safety, so Wilson has already clawed back two thirds of the gap Flitcroft left us with in just 11 games. He's got another 15 games to overturn that final two points. Looking doable isn't it? Had we continued accumulating points at the Flitcroft rate we would now be bottom of the league 5 points from our nearest rivals and 8 points from safety.

And to think, Wilson managed that by cobbling together a squad in the January transfer window with little time to assess what he'd got and the games coming thick and fast, while Flitcroft had already worked with the squad for 4 months last season and had the whole summer to recruit new players.

This legendary status seems to be easy to come by nowadays, I'd prefer to save such reverential tones for Barnsley managers who really have achieved something, like taking us to the top division for the first time in our history, generating the money to transform the stadium and training facilities and genuinely lifting the mood of the town that had been on its arse for years after the Tories had ripped out is heart when it decided to destroy the industry that gave it life.

Because every season is the same, every game is the same

I'm baffled as to why the same results and points tally don't occur for all teams year after year.

With posts like this you`ll tarnish any good thoughts anyone had for him. Already the "I`ll never forget what he did" brigade are suffering from amnesia and can only remember his last 4 months.

A young manager thats only just done a full season in management.

I will remember him for getting the whole club and fans to unite for the cause and that has happened only a few times through my life, now lets hope Danny can achieve the same once again cos its such a good feeling. Seems the internet and messageboards are making this harder when there is always someone going to take the opposite stance on a subject just for the laugh or to stir **** up.

The average manager lasts about two years.Thats because by and by they all have a good spell then get sacked after a bad spell.Flitcrofts achievements in his good spell were nothing short of miraculous and for me thats what I'll remember him for.

Quite a lot of them sort about Ponty, more and more seem to be sending art their assistants to do the after match chat usually because they have been criticised or to prove a point after a win.

He was a man apart though, all buzzwords and motivational nonsense. I thought it from day 1 of his management but put it aside as he was getting results, by the end of last season though I had ceased listening to any interviews he did as they were nauseating and cringeworthy. It's my abiding memory of him, he made himself sound out of his depth in football terms, and so it proved. Motivation only goes so far, as Keegan kept finding out, and he was a far better manager than Flicker will ever be.

His insistence on spending the budget on pampering the 'special human being' players also grated with me.

I thank him for keeping us up, but only in the same way I thank Davey for doing the same. Resigned to history now.

I thank him for keeping us up, but only in the same way I thank Davey for doing the same............ Yes I thank Flicker for keeping us up, as for Davey it was his bloody tactics that kept putting us in the position we found ourselves in, we only won Liverpool in the cup because the players ignored his arm flapping scene, shouting get back defend, if only they had ignored him in the league games .... Davey. The word football and his name should never be spoke in the same breath let alone sentence, God how I hated that bloke. For those knocking Wilson get off his back he's trying to rectify a bad situation with one hand tied behind his back whilst juggling oranges. Judge him at the end of the season, I think you will all be pleasantly surprised.

MrsHT nailed it earlier. You're not helping your mates with posts like this. A lot of us hold Flicker in high regard for being manager of last seasons great escape. We see him as a bit of a tit for this season. But that's the case with many of our past managers. Good spells and bad spells.

But trying to compare him with Danny Wilson is bloody laughable.

As for him being our only true legend of the last seven years...? Wow (as he'd say himself).

He's not fighting a budget battle at Bury, either. They've recruited more players this season than most clubs. Signed 18 players from June to September. They've signed another 10 since Flicker took over. And some are pretty decent for League Two. They've got Brian Jensen in goal, Jim McNulty, Danny Mayor, Chris Sedgwick, Andrew Tutte, Pablo Mills, Tom Soares, Danny Nardiello, Ashley Grimes, Richard Hinds, Tommy Miller, Jean Louis Akpa Akpro.
Yet they've got a budget battle? Aye, a battle to pay the wage bill probably. Not to forget the trips to St George's and all the other nonsense.

Neither do I think it's fair to suggest he's saving them from the drop like he did with us. They were 20th when he took over. They weren't in the bottom three. They're now 15th. So he's improved their fortunes. They're bang in form. Good luck to him/them. They're ten points off the playoffs with two games in hand. I would be happy for him if he joined Keith in gaining a promotion.

To finish, I think you're creating animosity. Most of us who disliked him by the end have already forgotten about his wretched spell in charge this season and just remember his good spell last season.

Good luck to you and your pals. But please end the pretence that you're one of us. It's looking a bit sad.

I will remember him for what he was and what he tried to do, not to the club , but to one single fan. Plus the fact he talked even more ballox than his mate Hill !!
