Someone at work said the lad that died during the Great North Run was from Barnsley.

    Is this correct?

Don't think any details have been released yet,

other than a 29 year old man died whilst taking part in the Great North Run.

    RE: Another this year?!

There were plenty of St John's, and Red Cross personnel, along with the Northumbria Ambulance Service. A number of Doctors volunteered their services, and were on the route.

If someone has a condition they do not know about, then its hard to blame the organisation when something happens like this. There were plenty of warnings about having a check-up with your doctor, and making sure you didn't do the run if you felt unwell.

There were 6 drinks stations with water, and 2 stations giving Lucozade energy drinks. Showers were provided if you needed cooling down.

At the start the big screens advised people not to try for personal best times, and if they were unwell, not to run. On the route, there were screens saying the temperature was 20+ยบ and to take care, and keep hydrated.

I really don't think that anything more could have been done.

    Very sad news.
