We looked up for it from the kick off and played at a high tempo, in true derby style, but with lots of good football as well. For me, the game was won in midfield, with Butterfield and Perkins both having immense games. JB would be disappointed not to have crowned his performance with a goal, but he absolutely bossed the game. Perkins was everywhere; incredible engine, and has got that knack of just getting there first. Matty Done was great today as well, brilliant assist for second goal, but put in a right shift and looks to have a turn of pace that I hadn't really seen before. Two good goals from Craig Davies, let's hope we've found a goalscorer now he's got some confidence. He does look a bit lightweight at times for a big lad, but the second finish was top class. Bobby looked a bit rusty after his injury lay-off but the rest of the team scored 8 or 9 out of 10. I really like the way McNulty is developing as a centre back, looked class today. I don't think we can say it was because Donny are poor - they beat Ipswich away last time out, it was that we showed much greater desire & played them off the park. Not sure about the sending off, but Donny's No.5 and No.2 both committed fouls that they could have seen second yellows for. To be honest they were getting nothing even before the lad was sent off anyway. Yes, we'll play much better teams, but it was very good today, perhaps the best performance since beating Leeds 5-2? Certainly the best since Hamill left, in my opinion. It showed that playing at a high tempo, and pressing the opposition high up the pitch, is crucial when you want to play a passing game. We have played too slow/deliberate this season; let's hope the style employed today is a blueprint from now on. 4-4-1-1 worked on this occassion, and the two CM's in the midfield 4 were brilliant together. Hill may have to change it for Leeds, especially with Drinkwater available and Haynes fit again, but they are good selection problems to have. Well done to Hill & the players; a very enjoyable day today.
