Following on from Japan beating South Africa in the rwc what would you class as the biggest soorting shock of all time? Personally I would say Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson. And from a Bfc point of view I would say either beating Man United in the Fa cup reply in 98 or beating Chelsea and Liverpool in the same competition in 2008.
Northern Ireland beating Spain in '82 was a big shock but I think Japan beating SA is probably the biggest shock seen on the world stage.
Puerto Rico beating the USA dream team in basketball at 2004 Olympics. USSR beating USA in 72 Olympics.
Douglas v Tyson Turpin v Sugar Ray Robinson Kirkland Laing v Roberto Duran Lloyd Honeygan v Donald Curry.
Becker winning Wimbledon aged 17 and unseeded. Cameroon beating Argentina in 1990 World Cup. North Korea beating Italy in 66. Bob Beamon at Mexico in 68 jumping nearly 2 feet longer than anyone else had before.
Was Wimbledon beating Liverpool that much of a shock? They finished 7th in the league that year I think, and got to the final. Only won 1-0. I've never been convinced it was such a massive big deal. More of a shock than relegated Wigan beating City? Not even sure about that but everyone harks back to Wimbledon. Edit - correction x2
Barnsley winning cup was quite a shock tbh. Bradford beating Chelsea ? Hereford beating Newcastle.? Greece winning Euros.?
The 1973 FA Cup Final : Sunderland beating Leeds Utd 1-0 and being the first club to win the FA Cup without playing any International players.
Nah, Rocky was a former world champion when he fought Drago. He lost some pace but not punching power.
