Last night whilst walking the dogs I "stumbled" accross about 150 tonnes of the green bin waste dumped, I believe, illegally, in a field right next door to Wombwell Woods.

I think recycling is a great idea, but surely dumping this ***** in a local beauty spot can't be right?!

A bin man who dumped it told me...and look at the waste, this is not industrial waste it is hedge trimmings and cardboard boxes. Exactly what we are told to put in green bins, and who else can generate 150 tonnes of this exact mix?

If that's the case, it's scandalous. Do you intend to take it up with the authorities?

    It'll decompose won't it?

Does cardboard decompose? I suppose it does eventually, but if we went to a wood and dumped our green bins, we'd be prosecuted.

Personally think the green bin idea is rubbish (no pun intended), thankfully they've suspended the rollout and we don't have it yet, but 1 week green (with nothing much in for me) and the 2nd week black (which is full most weeks) is stupid, they need to be looking at seperating out tins and plastics as well. The glass and paper works well.
And isn't there a thickness limit on the cardboard acceptable as well? So, for instance, the cardboard box containing my Sky+ decoder wouldn't be able to go in but some of the inner packaging could!

(see how I get Sky+ into an unrelated subject!)

I suspect the whole thing may be scrapped next year. IMO, it should be Grey Bin weekly, Bottles, Cans and papers kept seperate.

Phone the EA on 01132 440191 and ask to speak to someone about it. Im sure they'll be more than happy to come and take a look.

Or is this related to what you were asking me last week?

    Maybe it's down to contractors.

    It is.

Thackeray's do the council's composting, and it's their field.

There is a 6 month prison sentence for dumping on this land. I hope it is a counciller that gets it and not the bin men!!!

    It might be their field

But apparently allegedly etc they don't have a licence to dump there, therefore illegal if it turns out they don't have a licence.

And do you think they should be allowed to dump there, right next to Wombwell Woods!!!!! Even if they are don't you think it's outrageous. There has been no containing fence built or anything to stop kids getting in and messing about with it, etc etc etc etc etc.

And it is the council wagons and employees that are doing the dumping all be it with Thackery's permission.

    RE: It is.

Well let's all dump our **** there , save Thackary's a job, they don't charge the council and our sky high exhorbitant council tax might not have to skyrocket by as much in future.

Local Councils want disbanding. ******* rubbish. They exist purely to employ people. If Steve Houghton is worth his vast salary cos that's comparable to the private sector let him go and get a job outside of local govt.

    Lying down now.

It will be interesting to hear the reply/excuses you get, if any, from Cllr Morgan (Mayor elect).
