BARNSLEY: Reds set for Kelvin Etuhu setback Barnsley’s pursuit of former Manchester City midfielder Kelvin Etuhu is looking like ending in disappointment. The 23-year-old free agent ended last season at relegated Portsmouth and, after being offered a new two-year deal by Fratton Park boss Michael Appleton, indications are now that Etuhu is about to sign up for an extended South Coast stay. Appleton said: “I am going to get the offer to Kelvin over the next day or two - if I can get hold of him! “Seriously, I believe he is on holiday at the moment so it’s just a case of finding the best time to get him. “It will be a two-year deal and, hopefully, he’ll accept it and be ready to stay with us. “I think Kelvin has proven his worth since we gave him an opportunity and he helped push us hard in what was a difficult end to last season. “It’s something I would like sorting out quickly and Kelvin has indicated that he would like to stay with us.” Reds director Don Rowing told the Star yesterday: “We have spoken to Kelvin and his agent and put an offer to them, but it is looking increasingly like he will be staying with Portsmouth now. “We’ll see how that one develops, but it isn’t looking overly promising.” Rowing also confirmed that the Reds had now issued an improved offer for Brighton skipper Gordon Greer, but it does appear that he is also likely to stay on the South Coast as Seagulls boss Gus Poyet is reluctant to sell the experienced defender. Fans have been reminded that season-ticket-holders wishing to reclaim their seats for the 2012/13 Championship campaign must renew before the close of business next Thursday, May 31.
Well it shows the desire of the player when he'd rather play in League One. The offer for Greer clearly an attempt to appease us fans but we all know it will be laughed off, if first offer was a paltry 5 figures this one ain't gonna be much more that 1-200k is it?
Not bothered about Etuhu as he's a wrong 'un. I think Greer would have been just the player we need. Shame.
A very weak attempt at boosting season ticket sales by giving the perception that we are actually chasing championship standard players. Unfortunately blackies eggs are commonplace in brighton and manchester so ave heard. The Don must think barnsley fans came down in the last shower ffs!
Do you want to be kept informed or not?.Personally I think the club should keep quiet until players have signed. It seems to me they can't win whatever they do.
Dont think I was that impressed when we signed Vaz Te released from Hibs, track record of injuries and not much football. I do recall Davey trying to sign him as well btw.... What we need is for Greer to tell his agent he wants to move, and a clause to have been put in his contract where he can talk to clubs if they offer x. Thats how it works, isnt it?
Re: Dont think I was that impressed when we signed Vaz Te You seem quite positive these days S.M., you feeling alright?
I prefer to be in the minority my glass is only just half full as there's time yet for us to sign a right back. Im cautiously optimistic that Hill has one lined up.
"Club can't win whatever they do" Well - they can, to be fair. If they signed some good players and won some football matches, that would please everyone.
Re: "Club can't win whatever they do" Can see why some would be sceptical about Rowing talking about signings. May was always going to be the quietest of the 4-5 months people had to get season tickets so we have a board member in the press talking up how we have tried to sign a couple of championship players to try and boost sales. But thing is we haven't signed anyone yet so who we have tried to sign doesn't matter at all. I'd prefer we kept quiet on who we were after anyway.
I reckon The Don is actually shocked that Brighton don't want to sell their captain for peanuts.. 'What do you mean you want £500k?? We sold Vaz Te for that much and he's an actual match winner who creates and scores goals...' Dohhh That Vaz Te money isn't going to stretch too far is it Don?
