...just made the move to Italy permanent hoping for some warm sun and it's nearly as cold as UK (snowed yesterday 5 miles from our house and has been sleeting and raining and the garden is waterlogged) Anyrooadup...... Anyone know why you cant get Beeb or ITV without using a VPN to spoof your IP address to make 'em think you are in the UK? I know the BBC charter means that you cant get their broadcasts outside the UK but why does the ITV terms mean the same happens with their I-player? What I really want to know is how the BBC charter can override European law which states all transmissions in EU cross border should be unrestricted and unfettered (or words to that effect) I know the UK Govt is quick to jump on countries that restrict access to their broadcasts e.g. world service but they don't appear to practice what they preach. Why cant expats pay for some sort of 'digital access ' licence that gives them annual access to BBC content via the internet. Some people use large dishes to access the Astra satellite but that only works in certain parts of Europe. Seems to me the current charter disregards the internet and EU law and needs a re-write. Also wonder why someone (and particularly ITV advertisers as it is restricting their marketplace) has not challenged this in the European courts.
Bankwidth costs money so they aren't going to spend money on subsicribers who aren't paying the licence fee in the Beebs case. I guess there are also issues with Broadcast rights for bought in programmes. The same happens on US TV sites.
I'm gunna ask mi faffer if he ever got on that scab bus in 60's, if he did, he's not seeing his grandson ever again, sithi.
Le Marche... think Tuscany = Lancashire (East side) Appenines = Pennines (only higher) and Le Marche = Yorkshire!! Adriatic side
Have you tried the free Film On app? You don't need to set a VPN up, just register and put your country down as the UK and you get most of the freeview channels. There's also this set top box: http://www.ex-pat.tv/ We still download most of the TV we watch, god bless the Pirate Bay and TVTeam for uploading loads of UK content. I set up a VPN and used the BBCiPlayer on our Nintendo Wii on our TV but the connection was too slow, there's only one cable in and out of NZ so international data doesn't stream too fast.
