Football ground up for sale. Being sold as 'suitable for redevelopment'. Offers over £500,000. That could have been us. What a shame.......
In case you have forgotton...... We went into administration a few years ago and in the darkest days there was plenty of talk of the ground being sold for housing when Sean Lewis tried to buy the club (he was a property developer after all). Thankfully, Patrick Cryne saved the day.
RE: In case you have forgotton...... There was plenty of talk about us going bust - but that was essentially by Peter Doyle. You can't seriously tell me you fell for all that claptrap? Doyle was out to feather his own nest and there is no specific evidence that Barnsley would have gone bust without him (unless you believe what he says). Had we not got a buyer in by the deadline, I am sure it woud have been extended by the Adminstrator. If a club likes Barnsley collapses it starts a domino effect that nobody wants. Gretna on the other hand - other than a few hundred die-hards- who gives a stuff??
The few hundred die hards give a stuff I never want to see any team go bust. Look at Scarborough, the same thing happened with them. I can imagine there were many people who supported bigger clubs than us who had exactly the same thought as you. 'If Barnsley go bust, who gives a sh*t? They only get 10,000 or so anyway'. Get your head out you arse and stop being so f**king ignorant. You sound like a Wednesday fan.
And another thing... I wasn't on about when Doyle was at the club. It was thought moron Sean Lewis who I was bothered about. However much of a prat Doyle was he'd have never taken the club out of business.
The council would never have let Barnsley go bust... ...it's about the only thing that puts the town on the map. A big earner for the council is attracting businesses which then snowballs and improves the local economy through jobs and potentially a more wealthy population. The fact that they now co-own the ground with PC shows this, if needed I'm sure they would have made a bigger financial contribution.
Disco .... You know nothing about it as you have just proved. What you have just written about Doyle is scandalous. Whatever you may think about him, HE put the money up front to stop the club folding. He was a pillock with about a big mouth, but he stopped the club goping down. Cryne could have bought the club then, but he didnt , Why?
Well said Reverend! Its the attitude of "who gives a stuff" that let's clubs go to the wall. We have been lucky. If we had been relegated in the season under Hodges, who knows where we would be now - Conference North?
