they knocked down my old Junior school

at Allots Corner, Hoyland Common .... I was gutted. They also took down the Town Hall in Hoyland I was gutted about that too. Hoyland was a great little town until the Assholes that call them selves planners got a hold of it... its not concrete, steel and plastic... and SOUL-LESS.

    I hope they sleep well .... B A S T A D S

do have any idea what the site will become

I am guessing one of the big building companies will jam a load of houses on it.

Great building but awful location for renovation. Wonder what'll go in its place?

    An Asylum?

Plenty of demand for one in this vicinity.

30 odd houses and bungalows are going there apparently.

Surely if its going to be homes then they would have been better off converting it into apartments. But I think it's ideal use would be as a bar, restaurant and conference facilities as part of the club. I know it doesn't fit with our low risk low return strategy but it would make the club money because redfearns proves how profitable a match day bar is and in a larger scale the profits would be significantly more, with the building beng so nice people would go there for a meal on any day and with the clubs own stated footfall at oakwell on none matchdays a bar and conference suite would have enough trade to pull in the cash.

Sadly our drop down the leagues means bars MAY do a decent trade once a fortnight and be closed the rest. Need 20k every fortnight and other things at the club to make setting up a bar that far from town any sort of success.

Oakwell stadium has 1.1m in footfall every year. As stated by the club on its commercial page right now. If that isn't enough to make money from some decent catering then nothing is.

If there was good enough bar and good enough restaurant people would certainly travel, the problem is that nobody is going to do that to eat or drink in a dilapidated football stand

The pathetic approach by council to encourage lidl and home bargains to take town end space - rather than make it a complex like Leopold Square in Sheffield I.e nice restaurants, tells me they are not bothered ensuring it is something to get us excited.

errrm ..." WE "... do not even own Oakwell

so why would " WE " buy the school ... surely " WE " would be better off securing the tenure on Oakwell rather than the ground that the Grove Street school sits on.

Last thing I heard was that the club were going to use it for their education programme, guess they didn't get the funding.

Oakwell is effectively in trust, being owned by the Council and PC. This is to protect it, if faced with buyers who would do the club harm. I just believe that this package of land would be useful in the future.

Re: errrm ..." WE "... do not even own Oakwell

If a club the size of Rochdale can run a nice bar and club house at their ground , why can't we ? Short sightedness by the club. Keep drilling it into the fans they're lucky to have what they have and eventually they'll accept nothing will ever change.

To my eyes it's a very ordinary, uninspiring example of Victorian functional architecture. It is extremely likely to be rat-infested, and a nuisance to local householders. I do remember talk quite a few years ago suggesting the club was looking into buying all the houses opposite the ground with a view to future development of the stadium. Those halcyon days are gone, no doubt.

It's an embarrassment it's been left in that state for so long.
