    thought it was an ice cream at first!! now growing your own ice cream would have been special!!

    Cazi do you grow your own taties? If you do whats the best way to keep slugs at bay?

    Not had any problems with slugs on my spuds, love

    but I would use slug pellets.

    parsnips, like sprouts, need to be frosted before harvesting

    am wanting to grow my own next year but I know my Dad has had probs with slugs in the past. I know he once used soot?!

    Trouble is, love, we don't really get hard frosts.

    Anyroad, if I left them until the frost they'd be like triffids :D

    RIGHT DIG BIG LONG FURROW LINE IT THROUGH WINTER WITH GRASS CUTINGS OFF LAWN MARCH TIME DROP YOUR SEED TATTIES IN COVER SMALL AMOUNT SOIL AND AS THEY START GROWING KEEP COVERING IN SOIL AND COMPOST TILL YOU GET TO ABOUT 2FT ABOVE YOUR SEED TATTIES THEN LEAVE EM AND HARVEST WHEN READY ROUGHLY BEGIN OCT. THE GRASS CUTTINGS STOP THEM SCABS COMING ON EM AND IF YOU FEEL THE EARGE ABOUT AUGUST DIG SOME UP THERE SMALL BUT BEAUTIFUL

    OPEN CHEAP CAN OF BEER POUR INTO LARGE PLASTIC CONTAINER PUT IN GARDEN YOU`LL BE SHOCKED AT HOW MANY DEAD SLUGS WILL BE IN IT

    If you want to do a lot this is probably not a goer but I do mine in containers - something the size of a council bottle recycle box would do the job. Not had any problems with slugs and there's plenty in my garden. Just did one variety of earlies last year and this year did 3 varieties

    ....is a winner in my house. Well, it would be if you could actually buy bloody parsnips in this backwater of a city!
