So I've been told this morning
So..........
The directors need to tell the players not to run to parts of the ground after scoring which may encourage fans onto the field
E.g. Ponti end, north side of East Stand lower

And if we want to reduce the enthusiasm of the home crowd the directors can look at closing parts of the Ponti Road end in that corner and the corner of the northern section of East Stand lower
This will of course add to the other areas that the home crowd cant use such as parts of northern section of West Stand Lower
If we also introduce more hard line stewards that should also reduce over enthusiasm of the home crowd.
The police could get more involved, especially if people in the home sections of the crowd are seen jumping up and shouting and leaving their seats
I think if its done properly, Oakwell could be made a very nice, quiet and pleasant place for visiting teams and their raucous supporters to visit.
Lets hope something can be done.

What if BFC changed all 23000+ seats to those found on roller coasters, at ten to 3 all the harnesses lock until 3.45 then again after half time is over. It's the only solution.

Sorry YN but IMHO

you are obviously winding people up OR you seriously don't understand that Barnsley Football Club are not the villains/vigilantes or whatever you wish to see them as. They are actually the victims of the crime of soccer hooliganism - "fans" ran onto the pitch during play, which is an offence and which could have escalated into violence.

If this "guy" ran onto the pitch then he should accept any punishment given.

which could have escalated into violence...............But Didn't !!!!

If it had escalated into violence.........then and only then does the FA need to get involved
But not when the players encouraged fans to join them by running into this corner
And there was no concern from the players while half a dozen fans joined in the celebrations

RE: Sorry YN but IMHO

Sorry Crystal but thats not hooliganism. I'm not saying it's right, but its not hooliganism. YN has a point- we are in danger of sanitising Oakwell if they close areas of the ground or take other excessive steps to curb over exuberant celebrations. They should be stopped from going on the pitch, but not at all costs. Otherwise we might as well go back to the days of fences, police dogs and riot police.

I wasn't at the match,

Laura ill again, but you can't blame the players for celebrating. They get dealt with by the Ref. if seen to be "over-exuberant".

I'm not aware that the players shouted to the fans to "come on down!" so any "fan" that went onto the pitch is in the wrong.

The only time it can be justified to run onto the pitch is if there is an emergency and that is one of, or the only escape route.

RE: Sorry YN but IMHO

The rozzers have had their eye on the front of the Ponty near the East Stand for a while - ever since the nutjacks were moved out of the back corner of the Ponty ( Where they could easily be monitored, but never mind) and scattered around the Gangway 1 area. This gives plod an ideal excuse to shut off seats in the Ponty.

I personally hope all those who entered the field of play from the Ponty and the Eaststand are identified and barred from Oakwell for the remainder of the season to show oithers that it will not be tolerated and hopefully to save BFC from action by the FA.

If the Club has had problems in the past,

which we know it has - the sweetcorn incident, then any further breaches of rules would be dealt with more severely. This being the case BFC has to be seen to deal with the problem rather than accept it as something that happens.

I'd rather the Club act than have to react to any sanctions imposed on them. What if we are given a heavy fine or docked points, we're hardly in a stable position to absorb either?

I think Dirk has it about right

Ban them for half a season, or till end of season, to show its not tolerated. But I really fear that it could all go too far.

I don't know- we're either sat is a morgue or rowing cos folk are on the pitch- can't we have a happy medium somewhere. Like mid-table obscurity?

I don't agree.

Football is a dangerous game.
Almost every day you hear about the terrible injuries that are inflicted on the pitch.

I think those brave young men who entered the playing field, at their own risk, should be applauded.
They almost brought a tear to my eye.

God save the Queen.
And her dogs.

I was warned by a copper at Sunderland

for giving the w-anker sign when a Sunderland player let the ball run under his foot for a throw to us. I am 50 years old and have never been involved in trouble of any kind, football or non-football related. It seems I am now a hooligan.

Good ...

Despite all your attempts at justification, running on the pitch is a criminal offence and the club absolutely cannot be seen to be condoning that - surely you can see that?

I agree that labeling the 'pitch invaders' as hooligans is wrong, they are idiots who are guilty of perhaps a little over exuberhance but it isn't the club that are calling them hooligans. The club are trying to identify people who committed a criminal offence and at the same time trying to avoid sanctions.

Was that a serious comment?

Can't make a w@nker sign at a football game?

If so that is sanitising the game. What's the referee then? A wally?

I'm taking a ball of 12oz and a patten for a Arron jumper to my next game.
