I think that Clarke is a better manager than Collins was. Hes better in some respects and appears very similar in others but I can't think of any way he's worse so on balance I have to say he's a marginal improvement so far. However I think the squad is worse this season than it was last season in pretty much all respects and the last minute relief at finally brining in a striker plus the over hyped return of hourihane masked what had been a poor window. Also think that the person or persons interfering in tactics and style of play behind the scenes needs to stop
That first opening 15 minutes against Bristol Rovers, was as good as I have ever seen us. Steamrolled them off the pitch. We have to find some consistency, if we can, i have no fears about a top six finish.
Clarke speaks well but League 1 isn't a debate competition. I can't say I've seen much on the pitch to convince me he's an improvement on Collins at this point.
I can. Last season I was bored out of my tree from first match on, but not so this season so far, so that's a plus.
But of a mix of these opinions for me. It's not quite as tedious as under Collins, but I don't think we're any nearer to having a team that can crack the top 2, if we don't improve soon I can see us just losing out on top 6 tbh.
No me neither. I haven't been particularly entertained or identified what our style of play is. Two of the main criticisms against Collins last year.
My thoughts exactly. Talks a good game, but unfortunately it’s played on grass and not in the press room.
It was only 3 weeks ago you said we've never had a stronger squad in league one mate On a serious note, it was always going to be this way. Weve had our best start in 6 years. Weve had periods of brilliant football, some shocking periods too. But he's had 8 league games - that's it. People wanted Duff gone after 3. We will struggle with consistency, but we need to have patience and give the new manager time. Get behind them instead of moaning and groaning constantly. Stop throwing bizarre jabs at the amount of coaches we have as though its not a normal thing in football. They might all have an input and Clarke might tell them to fk off and just focus on training and their specialities, whatever they may be. We just don't know. Its every time we draw or lose, over the top reaction straight away. Questioning and critiquing is fine but some of the reaction on here and social media is baffling - its EIGHT league games, with 2 good Cup games and one shocking cup game. We used to say give managers 3/4 transfer windows, now its between 3-10 games. Its mental. I like Clarke, I liked the appointment, I think he's made mistakes especially first few games with unnecessary or too many subs at wrong times, but he's in league one for a reason. He might improve just like players will, hopefully with us. Edit - wasnt supposed to be aimed at you Dawson, just replied with you being the opening post mate
I think that unless you’re outstanding like Ipswich were and Brum appear to be, then it’s going to be a long scrap, even for the teams that are ultimately successful in getting promoted. It’s not a great league. Sometimes you’ll be pleasing on the eye, and other times you have to win ugly or not at all. Im always hopeful for a good performance, and disappointed when it doesn’t happen, but never surprised at how well or badly things can go in this league.
At least we know what the problem is. We score a goal and then int he second half we lose the courage to keep attacking. We defend the one goal lead. And we're not good at it. So at least we know the problem and we know the solution(s) - score more goals or have the courage to keep attacking or defending from up top. How the manager gets them to do that, well, that's what he's paid the not too shabby amount but not bazillions for.
