    HALF TIME FROM OAKWELL

    BARNSLEY 0
    SUNDERLAND 0

BARNSLEY had to be at their very best to still be in the game at half time against a confident and accomplished Sunderland side but the Reds did magnificently in the opening 45 minutes.

Reds boss Simon Davey made just one change to the side that lost against Norwich last time out with Neil Austin returning at full back to replace Bobby Hassell, who missed the match through illness.

Roy Keane's preparations for the game had not been helped by the fact that three players were left back in Sunderland meaning there was no place in the side for Anthony Stokes and Tobias Hysen.

The Reds were under pressure from the first whistle as Stern John went to ground easily under the lightest of challenges from Paul Reid. Grant Leadbitter hit the resulting free kick straight at Nick Colgan from 25 yards.

Reid was again caught out on five minutes as Ross Wallace nipped in to stop the ball running out of play and set up David Connolly but the striker's shot flew high over the top.

A minute later Grant McCann blazed high over the bar from 30 yards as the Reds looked to break quickly.

Former Manchester United midfielder Liam Miller was the first player cautioned on 13 minutes as he cynically stopped Brian Howard breaking quickly by taking his legs out from under him.

Darren Ward was almost caught out a minute later as Martin Devaney sent in a quick free kick from 25 yards but his shot was took close to the Sunderland keeper.

At the other end Miller saw his low drive well blocked away on 14 minutes after the ball had dropped invitingly from Wallace's corner. Wallace again got in down the left wing on 19 minutes before crossing well but John smashed his shot against a defender when he looked odds on to open the scoring.

Wallace once more proved to be a real problem on Sunderland's left wing as he turned his way past a couple of challenges on 22 minutes before teeing up Connolly, who smashed a shot high over.

Wallace and Connolly teamed up again a minute later but this time Colgan had to be at his very best to stop the striker's low effort.

Howard almost created a goal for the Reds on 24 minutes as he flicked Sam Togwell's cross into the path of Devaney but the winger's volley flew an inch wide of the post with Ward stranded.

Sunderland pushed and pushed with Miller and Connolly seeing goalbound shots well blocked in the closing minutes of the half but the just could not find a way through.

The Black Cats went even closer on 44 minutes as John's trickery and a little bit of luck sent Dean Whitehead clear but the midfielder could only shoot wide with Colgan to beat.

BARNSLEY: Colgan, Heckingbottom, Reid, Nyatanga, Togwell, Ferenczi, Howard, Rajczi, Austin, Devaney, McCann.
Subs: Lucas, Kay, Eckersley, K. Reid, Nardiello.

SUNDERLAND: Ward, Simpson, Evans, Whitehead, Nosworthy, Collins, John, Leadbitter, Connolly, Wallace, Miller.
Subs: Wright, Cunningham, Murphy, Miller, Carson.

    Well actually

I'll tell you all now, but I was sent home from school being sick. I spent most of Wednesday and Thursday in bed with a really bad migraine.

Mum and dad told me about all the birthday messages and I asked them to reply for me.

I went out for a meal on Sunday with 5 of my friends and we had a great time. Infact the people at the Dil Raj made me a cake.

I'm going out again tonight for a meal.
