HANDY OFFER FOR COLGAN NICK Colgan gets the chance to resurrect his Barnsley career on Saturday. The former Republic of Ireland keeper, who has not been in the Oakwell first team since January, will play the whole match against Leeds United - Barnsley's final friendly of the summer. Colgan was an unused sub in last night's 2-0 win over Hull as Scott Flinders kept the third clean sheet in four summer fixtures. "It was a conscious thing to give Scott 90 minutes and on Saturday Nick Colgan will get 90 minutes as well," manager Andy Ritchie explained. "That's what both keepers wanted so we obliged with that and it has worked okay." Robbie Williams, who scored both goals last night, has sealed his place in the team to face Swindon when the League One season begins on Saturday week. "I've been mightily impressed with him, I think he's taken that position on the left handside and not looked out of place," Ritchie added. "He's a great outlet ball, he's got a great leap, he gets up to head the ball. "He's come back to start pre-season very fit, looking good and hopefully he can carry that on. He's the only left handside player we've got at the minute. We knew Neil Austin could play at left back so it was a natural progression to push Robbie forward, not rocket science." Alternative left winger Brian Howard is still on crutches following surgery to repair a stress fractured foot. "Robbie will have to start the season because Brian Howard's not going to be fit for the first three or four games. He's going to have to fight for his place when he's fit," Ritchie said. Williams was in a four man midfield alongside Chris Shuker on the right and Antony Kay and Stephen McPhail in the centre. McPhail was taken off after just under an hour and replaced by Jacob Burns. Said Ritchie: "We were a little concerned because he got a whack.'' Barry Conlon took over from striker Daniel Nardiello and centre back Tony Vaughan came on for Matt Carbon. Nicky Wroe's appearance in central midfield meant a reshuffle as Antony Kay dropped into central defence to take the place of skipper Paul Reid. 26 July 2005
