    Taff is short for Taffid which is Welsh for David.
    You might expect daffodil to therefore be a taffodil, but in fact it's a cennin pedr, which even more confusingly translates to Peter Leeks.

    to all my friend(s) ?? on this site and anyone of a Welsh/Celt/Sheep-shagger heritage --
    Happy St David's Day - Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant.

    Welsh for David is Dafydd - but the main reason the Welsh are called Taffs is because the River Taff flows through Cardiff. So all Welshmen regardless of of their name may be called Taffs -- probably more commonly used in South Wales.

    The history of the condom.
    In 1272, a Welsh inventor created the first condom using a sheeps lower intestine.

    In 1873 the English somewhat refined the idea by taking it out of the sheep first.

    ~ Obligatory edit. No, it took them 601 years to get the welsh out of the sheep to make the condoms.

    I watched Dream Alliance in celebration, happy St David's Day to the Welsh, almost as good as Yorkshire folk in my eyes, almost. (apart from Cardiff City fans, they can GTF)
