I don't know if this has been done before, and so in my brandy infused evening in i came upon a question for mi fellow Tykes. Alan Little was a bit of a hard git and he was known amongst my cousin's lot as 'Animal' due to his 100% commitment in the tackling department. Gwyn Thomas was another hard **** as well!
Alan Little was the hardest I've seen Closely followed by Pat Howard and a multitude of severed limbs !!!
well in my time of watching the reds(started going mid 80's)it could be anyone from the following
mal shotton
gerry taggart
steve cooper
gwyn thomas

RE: Malc Shotton? Forgot about 'Shots'. Shame on me! Didn't he play with a broken toe or something at the tail end of the 88/89 season and scored a couple of goals too? Plus; Wasn't it Shotton that had a tete'-a-tete' with John deehan on the team bus to Bramall Lane prior to the 89/90 Cup clash? If memory serves me right, deehan had a cracking shiner the following week.
Mind you, just thought of another...... Anton Otulakowski. He was a hard little get! We sold him to West Ham for £70,000, same day we sold martin Gorry to Newcastle for £50,000. I can well remember the gossip as we walked down Belgrave Road towards the ground - "Anton's gone!" "Ar! Av erd Gorry ez anall". Being 11 years old at the time i was impressed with mi cousin's knowledge and the information his mates held
Duncan Sharp, kicked lumps out of the opposition! Hard as nails. Became a green-grocer down Wilthorpe.
Hardest I've seen was Alan Little when he did a double act with Graham Pugh in the 78/79 promotion season. Mi Fatha says Duncan Sharp used to be hard as nails. I remember Kenny Burns coming on as sub against Wimbledon and flooring their centre half who had been given David Hirst some stick all game.
Obvious ones are Gwynn Thomas, Darren Sheridan also Kenny Burns, Redders wasnt a shirker, Ashley Ward also took some punishment.
