Some bugger vandalised his statue outside Huddersfield train station by putting an Huddersfield Town scarf around his neck :( He also had a birthday boy balloon tied to his hand which was amusing :)

What we'd give to have a prime minister like him these days. Stupid that four terms in office and you still don't get a statue at Westminster. He should get it for refusing to send out troops to Vietnam to help USA. He didn't bow to pressure from the states like many of our PMs have since with regards to wars elsewhere in the world. There is no blood on his hands and Lyndon B Johnson never forgave him for not backing him. He gave school leavers higher education with the Open University. He built 400,000 new houses in just one year and during his reign the inequality gap between the rich and poor was at an all time low.

Wilson had flaws..but also a lot of extreme difficulties...with hindsight he didn't do too badly.

Might look for that one myself. Under him we had our lowest ever inequality rating. Then there is how he relaxed laws on homosexuality and abortion. Nowadays same sex relationships are quite rightly seen as normal. But when he backed them all them years ago I can imagine he had to put up with alot of negative opinions. Been some good articles all week in the local rag, here's some.....

Open University is seen as his greatest achievement but i'd say the thousands of British lives he no doubt saved saying no to Vietnam was an even bigger achievement.

He might have saved British lives in Vietnam, but he indirectly caused a million deaths in Biafra.
