I watched a programme about people making a living in virtual worlds the other day so i thought i'd give it a pop. Strange old place in there, fancinating and also a bit sad that people spend hours and even days on it, bit like some of the BBSers in here. We could club together to buy and create a BFC island where we could all meet and argue and possibly make love. There's some crazy places to visit, brothels, casinos, airports, shops and you use the second life currency called linden dollars which you can purchase with real cash to spend in these places. Manchester has an island where there is the Printworks, Urbis and some other places. Leeds Met has 2 islands where they have created a replica of the Met Uni, you can access the whole building to see current students artwork. www.secondlife.com
This stuff terrifies me. Everyone is gonna get sucked in and we'll be fat pale blobs attached to machines in reality and it'll be like the matrix or something aaaargh
It's the ultimate chatroom/messageboard but as you say it's worrying. I think they are close to bringing out a version that you comunicate using speech instead of just typing.
A world with less Flat chested/ munters (for the ladies) and more 6 packs (on the men) Looking at the picture you supplied, I can imagine everyone's going to make themselves a bit "buffer" than they might be in real life. Mind you. If you're a handsome adonnis like me, it might be interesting to experience what some of the less visually gifted out there have to put up. All the attention can get a little tiring.
