This is my 11th season now as season ticket holder, I go to away games when I can, roughly about 6-8 per season and have only caught the ball once in all that time. And that was away at Grimsby. The ball came straight to me in the crowd. I threw it straight back but becuase of the really low roof the ball hit the metal frame and landed on a womans head a few rows in font. Proper comedy moment, but she didnt look too amused.
At Fulham Away, about 8 or 9 years ago. We were winning 3-1(?) at the time (certainly well in the lead anyway). The ball flew into the away section, straight at me sat at the front. I caught and the ball and briefly hung on to it until a Barnsley player came near enough to throw it directly back. I always remember the moment as my mate said something funny that made me laugh just as Higgy made eye contact asking for the ball. I laughed, and even though he didn't know why we were laughing Hignett laughed too - it just felt like both the fans and the players were really enjoying winning there.
Caught one full in the face from about two yards once.. does that count? Was only about 10 at the time my head only just made over the top of the wall.
RE: Caught one full in the face from about two yards once.. Once in 56 years. Old leather one at Roots Hall with a wayward shot from, I think, Frank Bartlett (1961).
Caught ball twice in one match once At White Hart Lane in Fa cup during the Premier season when we drew 1-1 i caught a Redders drive in first half and then a David Ginola wild effort in Second half injury time i can remember my eldest brother just tellin me to hold onto it ha ha
Play off semi- Hudders away on the front row second half when we had just taken the lead! On TV as well to prove it. I held onto it for 5 seconds and got a dirty look from the Hudders keeper!
