Stopped 1 week after ban came in

Best thing I could have done. Had a few "odd ones" since, notably on the evening of 8th March 2008 whilst celebrating a certain cup victory. That was my last one!

From the age of 19-24 just when i went out for a drink. Then aged 25-31 about 20 a day, even more when i went out drinking. YUCK!! It makes the bank balance alot healthier aswell as your body

Yep, you can only stop when you're good and ready or it won't work. I stopped after getting a bad bout of flu which led to pneumonia and an abscess on my lung. I've ended up with permanent scarring on my lung so that was enough to scare me into stopping

    Piece of piss!.....

I did it on the day my daughter was born..... swore not to smoke ever again ...... never had a problem.

Mind you, apparently i was like a bear with a sore arse, according to 'er indoors, for 3 months.

I smoked from 14 up to the age of 37 (30 a day mostly from being 18 onwards), and if i'm honest, i don't even miss the stuff now. Biggest mistake of my life taking up smoking methinks.

well, i'm sorry you had to in through that, it all depends on the person. In that i mean, an unsuspecting person may get all the bad symptoms. On the other hand, they may smoke 60 a day (like my grandma) and die of nowt to do with fags. Also my grandad, had a lung out with cancer, but continued to smoke for 15 years after (despite being told 1 year if he continued to smoke) and died with lukemia. At the end of the day, they enjoyed their lives.

Yep at the end of the day it's all down to how your body copes with it. Like you say some people smoke all their lives and live to a grand age. I just knew my time with the fags was up!

It can't be easy giving up an habit that you've had for many years.

    Its easy to pack in

you just have to want to, and realise that at best for every 20, 19 just burn.

10 years come this November. smoked for 16 years, up to 40 a day when boozing or bored.

"You just have to want to."

That's it. The single most important message.

Before a session I used to ask people to imagine that if they smoked another cigarette the person closest to them would die and ask them what they'd do.

It's not a matter of "Can I do it?" it's down to, "How much do I want to?"

1970 after watching my Dad die from Lung cancer.........

I was only 18 and not a heavy smoker.

After seeing Dad suffer so much I made my mind up not to kill my self with tabaco.
