Has Simon Davey got what it takes to handle ‘Internationals’ Manage a team that needs to be in contention for play off positions this season. Ensure the new additions compliment the existing players and ensure the football is worth watching.

He did show determination and guts to keep us up but the ‘full’ season challenge is a different kettle of fish. My guess he will need some help with an old head in the Management team if it were possible to appoint one.

I'm not one of his biggest fans, admittedly, but i suppose he can now gel together a team that he is after, rather than inheriting the squad that he did.

We dont 'need' to be contending for the play offs.

Why not aim as high as possible?

last year the Club came out and said the aim was just to survive and that was achieved , surely this year we have to aim higher, I would think at least as high as Wednesday last season. (dunno) (dunno)

Yes but.............

We cant get carried away admitidly we have shown some abmbition in the transfer market even tho im not so sure signing too many foriegners is the way to go, but if people start expecting too much the club more than likely end up in a state i.e managers sacked. Nothing wrong with optimism but keep it in context.

agreed, we got promoted last year, just stayed up this year, we still have a fairly small squad (hopefully more coming in), id be very happy with finishing about mid table, slowly building for the year after.

So no then ?

Lol.

I honestly don't know. Last season was a difficult one to jusge him on. He was plonked in charge of Ritchie's team, then had a plethora of loan signings foisted on him ( we still haven't established who picked them ). Then we settled down to crap football and picked up points, then crap football and lost a lot. Then came the Hungarians and we started hoofing it long. Lost a load of games and picked up some remarkable victories. Stopped up due to Alan Lee, and thus Davey now has a full pre season to mould his team.

Assuming he gets all the players he wants, using his ibvious connections in South America, ahem, it'll be interesting to see how we approach this season.

Personally I hope he approaches games even against the top clubs with a more positive outlook. It seemed to me last season that certain games were written off before we started and we focussed on 'winnable' games. Whether that was necessity due to our league position I don't know, but it seems a dangerous way to go at a 46 game season.

It looks like the Board are backing him up to press. Benchmark signing will be the quality fo defenders that we bring in.

Hope he does well, cos he's in charge of my team.

yes

I am being positve here. Kelham O'Hanlon is the expereinced head you speak of and he's already here. Davey had just one task last season keep us up. He had to bring in loan players quickly and work with a small squad looking at relegation. The football wasnt pretty at times but that wasnt the priority. He has done a great job to keep us in the championship. I didn't want Ritchie to go but now believe we would have gone down had he stayed. I think the management team will move us up a level this year and we can get ourselves into mid table.

who knows?

as one of the only simon davey fans on here i hope he does

plus points so far-

mostto & johnson - both have international expirience, and have played most of there careers at this sort of standard

davey has shown whos boss by releasing established players - kay & austin

he kept a poor side in the championship last season - would we have survived with out the contributions of ferenczi, nytanga & mccann, who davey brought in? (forget mattis, rajczi, eckersley, jones)

he got nardiello fit & on form when we needed it!

negatives-

still need a quality centre half, keeper & 3 or 4 midfielders

my squad so far

gk - colgan & ?????????
rb - bouma & hassell
lb - hecky & williams
cb - reid & ?????????
cb - hassell & ?????????
mf - devaney & ?????????
mf - howard & ???????
mf - johnson & ?????????
mf - mccann & ????????
st - ferenczi & odeyabi
st - mostto & nardiello

a 'box office centre half & a few good loan signings should see us ok i think

Polish builders required

We need to get some Polish builders to build a wall the size of the one between the USA and Mexico along the 18 yard area.

Absolutely, no doubt

the guy is very ambitious, he's a grafter, putting in the hours, travelling all round Europe watching and meeting players, he's got specific ideas on who he wants and how he wants his team to play, he has able assitants around him and I for one am very excited about the new season. I think he'll turn out to be one of the best and most successful managers in Barnsley FC history.

S.M. I think you should definitely seek help.

We have Simon Davey not Alex Ferguson. How on earth you can be so positive about the Welsh Wonder is beyond me, unless you are big Shep and are in the know about football ???? (seestars) (seestars) (seestars) (seestars)

Why assume "Internationals" have the big I am syndrome

when the most bother we have had over the last few years has been home grown and often very local.

But if he can't handle what you call "home grown & local" who have an opinion, how do you think he will handle experienced internationals who have opinions. Will he show them who's boss and drum them out of the club as well?
