The efforts of the Mail and Telegraph has created the impression that this is a problem within the Government and that they should carry the can.

It's a problem with the House Of Commons as a whole and I hope Labour do not lose the next election on the strength of it. However, as we are a nation brainwashed by sensationalism I fear they will.

I agree, Labour shouldn't lose the election because of the expenses scandal

It should be because of their rank incompetence.

Labour were on their Knees before the expenses scandal broke out.

    Expenses

Small beans compared to the money being wasted elsewhere on public spending et al. - a few grand here and there on moat cleaning doesn't even compare.

I'll be doing a merry dance if Labour get absolutely massacred though. Not that they will in my ward of Darton East where a Hitler llama could stand for them and still win by a landslide.

I might have voted for UKIP until

He admitted he had received £200,000 a year expenses for the last 10 years. Head in Trough again.

    But as Alan Sugar said

No other party would have been able to do any different ... re economic problems, and he ( Gorden Brown) has more standing in the world re finance than almost any other world leader... Now he is obviously a G Brown lover but he does seem to be the sort of guy who doesnt suffer fools gladly...

The average voter will be ill informed of their level of competence and will vote based on whatever has made the biggest impression on them

This will either be the economic crisis which is global and the expenses scandal which is an all party scandal

    Which is labours own fault

Why is the average voter so uninformed? Because the political parties are so out of touch with the average voter and lock themselves in an ivory tower giving out very little useful information and spending more time trying to discredit anyone that they disagree with rather than trying to reach a solution. If labour loses votes because of this then it only has itself to blame.

    BFC take note

ps, all politicians are immature and would not last 2 minutes in a normal job

    Public apathy is Labour's fault?

If people aren't interested there is not much you can do about it - "don't watch the telly - read this instead" - that would go down well

    No it's not...

it is the fault of the political system and media in this country as well as the people themselves. That and Thatcher.

I'd like to know who people think have benefited the most from all this?

Labour are f.cked. They were never going to get in before this and no chance now.

The Tories have reminded everyone how much of an upper class set of cnuts they are ("They're jealous of my big house", "I need someone to clean my moat")

The only benefit will be for the Lib Dems & fringe parties like BNP, Green & UKIP.

    Either way it's all f.cked.

And in answer to your question, I didn't know who I was going to vote for before and I still don't now.

RE: Of course apathy is the fault of the government

I mean that people would much rather watch TV than be informed. They wouldn't take the time to turn off the TV to read a paper, website, leaflet or whatever.

What can Labour do about that?

Why hasn't the Chron done the same for Barnsley Council

    This is an obvious story.

The councillers in Barnsley are raking it in on expenses. It was on the front page a while ago that one of the labour fakers had a load of "security improvements" done on his house at our expense which he had to pay back.

Or are they saving it up for when the national story dies down.

    It's like any other news...

It gets boring after a few weeks in the national newspapers, the locals don't want to bring the same news to you.
