Winstanley and Redfearn want the Barnsley job BARNSLEY By Simon Meeks BARNSLEY legends Neil Redfearn and Eric Winstanley have declared their interest in the management vacancy at Oakwell. Winstanley, coach to the Barnsley team that won promotion to the Premiership under Danny Wilson, is working at York City. His team earned an FA Youth Cup tie with Spurs last night after beating Chester 1-0 in a first round tie. "Everyone knows Barnsley is the special place for me," Winstanley said. He worked with Redfearn who was manager at Scarborough last season. Redfearn is still playing at Bradford Park Avenue and doing coaching stints. "Technically you could say that I'm out of work. It's no secret that I'm looking to get back to the club. I'm looking for an opportunity, if there is interest in me, I'd be interested under the right circumstances," Redfearn said. Peter Shirtliff, another former Barnsley player and coach has emerged as a contender to succeed Andy Ritchie. He is manager at Mansfield. Former Charlton boss Iain Dowie fits the profile outlined by owner Patrick Cryne as a coach who can develop players and although he has moved back to north to Lancashire, it is understood that he is in no hurry to return to football management.
Redders played for Park Albion last night.....and..... Was telling anyone who listened that he wanted to be the next Barnsley Manager.
In his book he said he wouldn't come back in a managerial capacity till he knew he could handle it- I hope he knows what he's doing.

RE: too soon for him i think bring him back by all means but as assistant or coach and build him up...would hate to see him thrown in at the deep end and then being resented by the fans cos he doesnt deserve that
