Many, including SD blamed our position in the league towards the end of last season on the players concentrating on the FA Cup.
So has todays result got a silver lining ???

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

    Never bought the 'distraction' excuse.

Professional players playing at a professional club for a professional manager. If their minds weren't on the league, questions have to be asked.

The fact is we were already in trouble in the league before the cup run got started.

    No

It was a chance to have another cup run, make some money and beat a fairly average premiership side.

Think this rather gives the game away

    From Daveys post match interview

"Last year our cup form was a distraction to us and we were in the same situation as we are in now. We dipped last year and we have to make sure that does not happen

I think its clear where his priority was - I am sure that we tried to win the game - the players tried their best - but wonder if Andersson Moore or Macken would have played if it had been Southampton this week not next. Not that I think risking them if not fit would have been sensible for this game.
