Match report from Official site doesn't mention him getting sent off BARNSLEY 1 (Nardiello 52) BIRMINGHAM CITY 0 DANIEL Nardiello's stunning second half strike gave the Reds an outstanding victory they thoroughly deserved at Oakwell. Reds boss Simon Davey again rang the changes in the hope of halting a slide which had seen his side slip back into the bottom three. Out went Paul Reid, Paul Heckingbottom, Paul Hayes and Ritchie Jones while Antony Kay, Adam Eckersley, Daniel Nardiello and Martin Devaney returned to the starting eleven. Brian Howard was handed the captain's armband for the first time. The Reds went for it straight from the first whistle with Kyel Reid causing problems in the City defence with a cross from the right. Raidi Jaidi's clearance fell to Nardiello and the striker brought an outstanding save from Colin Doyle with a well-struck volley. Nardiello was in the thick of the action again on eleven minutes as he managed to prod the ball through to Istvan Ferenczi in space but the big striker could only lash his shot wide of the target from 25 yards. Barnsley were well on top although a slip by Eckersley on 21 minutes almost gifted a goal to Cameron Jerome but the big striker shot well wide from 18 yards. Jerome was again in the thick of it a minute later as he put a free header well wide from Gary McSheffery's corner. Birmingham midfielder Fabrice Muamba finally broke away from his shackles on 26 minutes as he wriggled past Brian Howard and Sam Togwell before bringing a smart low save from Nick Colgan. Barnsley caught the Blues napping on the half hour as Devaney broke down the right before sending a fine cross over for Howard but the midfielder got his volley all wrong and the ball flew high and wide. Kyel Reid was an inch away from a spectacular goal on 39 minutes as he robbed Stephen Kelly before hammering the ball just over the bar from 30 yards. At the other end McSheffery really should have done better a minute later as he shot tamely wide from eight yards after good play down the right by Rowan Vine. Reid again tried out his shooting boots on 43 minutes as he curled a shot in from distance but his effort struck Kelly and looped over the bar. Nardiello then showed great feet to trick his way into a crossing position deep in stoppage time and sent over a fine ball but somehow Doyle managed to claw away Devaney's point blank header. Both sides started the second half at a frantic pace and McSheffery almost broke the deadlock on 49 minutes as he raced onto Martin Taylor's hopeful punt forward but put his lob high over the bar. A mistake by Heckingbottom then gave Muamba the chance to cross from the right two minutes later. The midfielder did well to pick out McSheffery at the back post but this time the winger hammered his volley high over. At the other end Nardiello broke well on 51 minutes but saw his shot cannon away of Bruno N'Gotty. Heckingbottom then redeemed himself with an outstanding pass on 52 minutes to send Nardiello in down the left wing. The striker still had a lot to do but he found a moment of brilliance to bend the ball past Doyle and in off the far post. Birmingham were desperate, none more so than when DJ Campbell threw himself to the ground in the area on 54 minutes in a vain attempt to cheat his way to a penalty. The referee rightly told him to get up. The Blues almost grabbed a goal on 58 minutes as McSheffery took advantage of a loose ball to cross from the byline but Vine could only shoot wide under pressure from Kay. It was almost two as Devaney managed to flick the ball across on the run on 59 minutes but Ferenczi could not put his volley on target. City almost had their leveller on the hour mark as Kelly put a free header straight at Colgan from eight yards after finding space to attack McSheffery's corner. The Reds had a massive slice of luck on 67 minutes as Damien Johnson smacked the post after Colgan had spilled McSheffery's corner but the home side somehow managed to clear. Again Birmingham threw everything at the Reds and Bobby Hassell had to be in the right place on 70 minutes to block Campbell's over head kick. Jerome then saw his scrambled shot from McSheffery's corner strike an arm in the area although the referee gave a corner. It was Jerome's turn again to cause problems on 75 minutes as he managed to get away from a challenge on the edge of the area but saw his shot brilliantly blocked away. Jerome was looking every inch a multi-million pound frontman as he again got the better of the Barnsley defence on 78 minutes to race onto Taylor's pass but his finish let him down and he shot wide of Colgan's post. The end of the game was marred by ugly scenes as Blues players and officials confronted the officials which sparked a melee involving both sides, during which the referee showed a red card to Neil Danns. Not saying you're wrong just saying it doesn't say anything on the main site or BBC ceefax scores/reports page.
Bit of a brawl after the final whistle Didn't see it start, there was already a bit of a crowd there by the time I noticed it. I saw the red card flashed once, although my mate reckoned he saw it twice. According to Radio 5 on the way home, Neil Danns was sent off for them, didn't mention anyone sent off for us.
Daveys just talked about it on Radio Sheff Hassell thinks he didnt do anything wrong and the referee has said he will look at the video of the incident
Well I only saw the one, and that was to their player, but I may have missed somet, because according to people around us there was either 1, 2 or 3 reds shown! It'll all come art in t'wesh!
Kay and Bendtner started it all... Pushing and shoving over handshake i think. Funniest thing was one of their management team taking his coat off for a scrap wi Ryan Kidd - he's a passionate bloke that Kidd! Hassell didn't appear to do owt but a lot of Brum players singled him out!

Just watched it in slow motion on sky Seems like the Brum numbers 11 and 17 were determined to get to Hassell.
PS Drove down Dodworth road about an hour ago and all the brum buses where stuck at lights near T'old Gents building. I drove passed them really slowly doing the old rubbing my eye with my knuckle and flicking my bottom lip crying thing at them. This proved difficult when trying to stear so resorted to the old 2 finger salute by the time I got to Shaw Lane.

That brings up an interesting point Were Hassell to be proven innocent by video replay, his card could be overturned (not saying it will be, but...)
Is there any procedure that would allow disciplinary action to be subsequently taken against Kay if it is shown that he did throw a punch and the ref missed it?
