A rare occurrence methinks. First hat-trick hero of my hero was a certain Mick Butler when he scored 3 goals in consecutive games during the mid 70's. Apart from that..... my memory may be hazy.... Brian Joicey got 3 agianst Boston in an FA Cup tie (that must be a rarity?), Clarkie got 3 against Port Vale in a very cold 6-2 win, who else has got an hat trick for the Reds? They seem rather scarce in my opinion and, i daresay, no one will ever match Mick Butler's two hat tricks on the trot (raiseaglass)
It was 3 hat tricks on the trot not 2. I vividly remember a full page article in The Sun about it, showing all the injuries he had suffered in recent seasons. There was only One Micky Butler !!!
Worked with Mick at Riccall Pit Selby from 87 to 94 he was an electrian there on same shift used to tell him he was my hero , told me lots of tales about Jim Iley and co like when they called him in and said he had been sold to Huddersfield for 30,000 he did not want to go but they had took some money as deposit to sell Ponte end car park for a supermarket but it fell through at planning ,but they had spent the dosh and had to sell him to give the supermarket chain there money back, finished playing at Bournemouth and would have stayed down there but his wife wanted to come back home.
The ones I remember in my time watching amount to 8 (1987 to present) David Currie vs Bournemouth (4) Andy Rammell vs West Ham FA Cup 4th round Andy Payton vs Grimsby Higgy vs Walsall Hendrie vs Grimsby Chopra vs Peterborough and Hudds and the strangest of all - how many of you remember Gareth Williams hitting a treble against Southend?! And can anyone remember who hit the opening goal of that game?!
Spot on mate. What a bizarre game that was - the most low-key hat-trick I can ever remember and the attendance was absolutely pitiful as well, sub 4k if I remember right.
Here's a few. Brian Joicey vs Halifax 78/9. Ian Banks at Rotherham 1981/2 Ron Futcher at Charlton 84/5 Gordon Owen vs Oxford 84/5 (strangely all headers) David Currie vs Bournmouth (4) 88/9 Garreth Williams vs Southend 92/3 Andy Rammell vs West Ham (FA Cup) 92/3 John Hendrie at Grimsby 96/7 Hignett vs Bristol R (FACup) 98/9 Hignett vs Walsall 99/00
RE: Here's a few. Oh aye, forgot about Higgy's aganst Bristol Rovers. The one against Walsall really sticks in the mind because Hignett was absolutely dire that game, he seemed to spend most of the match walking up and down the wing, yet scored one with his head and one with each foot, the 3rd being an excuisite chip in the last minute of added time (albeit against a midget goalkeeper)
Didn't Payton scored one against Huddersfield in the League Cup in a 4 - 0 win, after we had lost the first leg?
Yep I think you are right about the crowd figure. It was near the end of the season with nothing at all to play for.
