One of my mates said to me on Saturday after conversations about Davey's future, that we should really think about what Davey has done for this club and that we have by far a better team and squad than we did when he took over. I started off disagreeing, I think because when so many people are talking so negatively, I think the same (easily influenced??). So I got thinking.....

...and I for one believe that he has definately improved the squad, and other than a couple of disappointing departures (McIndoe and Howard) that I would argue he couldn't do much about, the remaining players he has let go are in the lower leagues, and not at progressive clubs at that (Tranmere, Scunny, Bradford etc etc).

Players in CAPS are my opinion on improvement.

    Keepers
First and second choice when he took over were Colgan and Letheren (when was Vito tho?), but now MULLER and STEELE. Improvement, in first and second choice for me.

    Defenders
Heckingbottom, Reid, Kay and Austin (and Hassell) replaced by KOZLUK, SOUZA, FOSTER, HASSELL, again improvement, with squad defenders also improved(?) from Williams and Tonge (any more?), to Van Homoet, Moore and Atkinson (also had Werling and Nyatanga on loans with permanent deals agreed!). Still no real strength in depth though, especially left back!!!

    Midfielders
McIndoe, Togwell, Howard, Devaney replaced with Campbell-Ryce, ANDERSON, Leon, Devaney. Now to me, this looks to be weakened without McIndoe and Howard, but as many have stated, Davey had little or no influence in these players leaving given there attitudes (I want to play for a bigger fecking club syndrome).

I would say that JCR is not a bad replacement for McIndoe. Davey also tried Kyle Reid and Ronnie Wallwork (loans), McCann, Ricketts and Mattis. He still has El Haimour, Colace and Johnson compared to Ritchie's Tonge? Kell? Wroe? Healy? It may be more strength in back-up, we just don't really know.

    Strikers
Hayes, Richards and Wright replaced with HUME, MACKEN and Odejayi. Problem we all know is that he has tried so many strikers without really settling. Mostto, Ferenzci and Christensen and both tried Nardiello. Davey also tried Leon Knight and Peter Raicji on loan.

I do think that the current squad is stronger than the one Davey inherited, and he should take credit for that. Some signings have proved to be real quality, which is a real plus for someone with less than 2 years experience of first team mangement. He has been unlucky with others such as Werling and Nyatanga that had agreed loan deals with permanent deals at the end...and then pissed of (somehow?). I think should these 2 players be here now, then we have fewer problems. But on the other hand, he has spent quite a lot of money on useless goits and arguably quality who he will not play/give a chance (Mostto, Christensen, Johnson).

His tactical ability and ability to get these players playing in the right position and right formation are still highly questionable, but I still think improvement, and I for one hope that he will continue to improve and become a top manager for us!

Care to elaborate? It wasn't actually an argument, more of an opinion (if thats allowed on here) or observation.

You should have put Ferenzci in caps at the time he was a top singing, I can't see how anyone can say he hasn't improved
    the squad.

JCR is not one of the best wingers in the league...

he is one of the best attacking midfielders. Never crosses the ball and usually fails to play the killer ball. However does supply a bit of class, something special that few can.
