Very early days of course but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. The signings that we've brought in look decent acquisitions, we've kept hold of our best players and turned down bids and we have a head coach that we can all get behind. Maybe I'm getting carried away with the 2 wins but we have a grit about us that I haven't seen for a couple of seasons. Loved today, even at half time I had a feeling we'd win the game.
Loving the positivity.....it's a great feeling after an extended gloomy period.... long may it continue!
It’s been great coming away from Oakwell after a win!.....doing so has been a bit of a rarity last couple of seasons lol.
As soon as we scored our first, I was confident we could win it. Not felt that for a long time at home.
Bit early to make that judgement but the signs are positive in terms of ‘battling Barnsley’ returning to us in the first two games. Look, we will lose games, we aren’t that good for us not to - and that first half was abysmal (despite CH in his interview suggesting it wasn’t that bad and he didn’t need to change much… Conor it was poor mate and a big part of that was your setup; two cb’s who aren’t mobile, no choice there but you played a high line, and the full backs playing in the other teams half was always going to be too risky) - but if they keep working as hard as they did, pushing for ninety plus minutes, putting a proper shift in and looking like they actually mean business, I can accept getting beat occasionally. They’ll do for me if they’re training hard through the week to be fitter than the oppo and grafting properly come match day. The last two years we’ve looked disinterested and lethargic at home at times. I feared the same was continuing in the first half. Credit to them and to CH for not accepting that is the norm. Defensively we looked predictably weak. Jack Shepherd coming back in strengthens us; I think I’d keep Earl in but out at left back over Ogbeta for now - MDG will have to play for now whilst Robbo recovers as I can’t see them signing anyone, but even that one change makes us better. The new lad at right back might improve the balance as I don’t think Bland is a natural out there but he didn’t do masses wrong today. The keeper should learn from today as well; his starting position was often out of sync and from where he was he shouldn’t have come out for the second - if he’d been as high as Brad Collins used to routinely be he’d maybe have got there; but he’ll know he made the wrong judgement and Collins starting position was a bit kamikaze so I’m not suggesting that is the way forward. He got it wrong today, but it didn’t cost us and it’s one to learn from. In any case mistakes will happen, we will get it wrong and concede goals. On some occasions we won’t get back into games either. But as long as the endeavour is there; the playing for the shirt like it means something, then that’s an improvement on the last two years and a solid foundation.
It’s never not been our club, unfortunately a decent percentage of ******* want to see negatives and think they’re fun.
Definite buzz on the way to the ground - quite a lot of new faces around me which was good to see as well. Hopefully they'll continue to return
