What do we want a Centre Half for?

To put his head on a cross now and again. To not be muscled out of the game by the likes of Kevin Kyle, and to organise us.....

I missed the last goal, had enough by that point. Utterly deflated after such an abject capitulation; should never have got my hopes up in pre season! What irritates me is that we had the worst defence in the entire football league last season. However, the problem doesn't really seem to have been addressed. Having said that, I was reasonably impressed at half time - thought we looked stronger than last season.

The tactic seemed to me to be hoofball to Stan - however Stan failed to win much in the air, the Coventry centre backs could face balls like that all day. Judging by Odejayi's performance I fail to see why he didn't start. However, I also fail to see whay Paul Reid starts every game.

    RE: Werling

I was fine up to Saturday.

It makes me fcking laugh - Ritchie pilloried by The Masters of Football on here for not adding quality to the squad. Davey signs a bagful of unkown quantities and that's all fine.

90 minutes isn't enough to judge when all's said and done but we haven't addressed the defensive frailtiesecause Davey hasn'tbrought in 2 strong, quality centre halves. End of. And the money's there to do it obviously, just not the will.

By the way, can e-mail you a link to the most momentous day in The History of dwarf lotharios if you want.

    Young Nudger is "more confident"

than he was at this point last season. Even though we had given a promotion favourite a good game and went on to win the next two.

    I'm happy for him

But the day his thoughts are used as a serious guide is the day to pack up and go home.

Could'nt have put it better myself Dirk. Big holes in the defence , hoofing it up in the air , where is the football for goodness sake. Still by the year 2525 Barnsleyfc will buy two quality centre halves, a midfielder that can pass a ball and hold it up and a striker that can put the ball in the onion bag. Pity most of us wont be around to see this miracle. (hidebehindsofa)

I'll only be 197 by then.

Since the Prem season we've had a ***** defence. The promotion team from League 1 at times as a defensive unit looked good but still needed strengthening. Can't understand why it's such a problem for BFC to sort it.

Baffled that some folk think it's only been a problem the last couple of year.

Yes you are right, our defence as been shi*e for many many years, no manager seems to understand this, journeymen isn't the answer. Look at Scunny and Blackpool, big strong black defenders built like brick shi*e houses some muscle is what we want and quick. :)
