Apparently Euros are worth £2bn to companies for tvs and sportswear.

Have you ever bought a new TV to watch the footy?

Edit: I've never known anyone do this, but perhaps I live a sheltered life :D

Bought one for the new premier league season but took it back. Came with no Leads

In all seriousness why would any one fork out for a new telly just to watch footy on. Mind boggles

I've never purchased a telly. Every one i've ever had has been a hand me down from someone.

I suspect a lot of that is coming from pubs and bars. You often see them upgrading just before a major tournament.

As for me, absolutely not. I only upgraded from my old 15" screen because I got a PS4 and couldn't read any of the text on my new games!

I think it's probably more a case of people who are already in the market or ready for an upgrade, buying them before tournaments start. Also businesses/pubs etc, who will rush to open/refurb in time

I only buy new tvs, washing machines etc when they break. Never happened before a major tournament though!

A few years ago can’t remember which tournament but the games were on during the day so i bought a TV for my home office which didn’t have one before hand.

Used it every day since so worthwhile investment i think!

Yes, for the World Cup in 2022. But just for a bit of context we'd just moved into a new place and as yet didn't have a telly. The World Cup being on got my arse into gear to purchase one.

Worth it to see both England's greatest ever kit and Kevin Keegan"s perm in all their glory.

My favourite England kit, always wanted the original but couldn't find it anywhere or being sold for astronomical amounts. Found the replica from a company called score draw just before 2022 World Cup , home was out of stock so ended up with the away shirt.

Was looking on sports direct website the other day and home one is in stock for 18 quid, told the wife I was ordering it and she said you better not it's father's day next week wait and see. So hopefully will have both to wear

Bought a new video recorder in 1982 to record the France world cup, Hitachi top loader. £600 quid, Bryan Robsons 27 second goal against France was probably the first game I recorded while I was at work. Last DVD recorder I bought was under £100. Unreal.

I bought a new TV a good few years ago prior to one tournament, I forget which, because the offers on at Richersounds were superb. I had been looking to upgrade for a while regardless though

Bought a new TV for the 2006 world cup but we'd just emigrated to Australia so I think I can be forgiven. Only when we got it back to our rental house did we find out that their aerial was rubbish so it was like watching through a snow storm. Needless to say I didn't get up in the middle of the night for many matches.

Back in 74 Scotland qualified for the World Cup so my Dad went out and bought our first colour tv.
We had the privilege of watching the 1970 World Cup final in colour at my aunt’s.
Brazil v Italy possibly the best final ever.
