    There is a spelling mistake under the photo, but I can forgive the BBC reporter because they are probably shocked at someone getting offered over three million a week.

    Can't blame him at all. Saudi Arabia are getting a bargain if you look at the bigger picture. Having the greatest ever play in their country will promote the sport there to levels it has never seen. It will be like what Beckham did for MLS. They will make back most of the outlay on shirt sales too.

    At £3m a week assuming shirts are £60 they’d have to sell 45000 shirts a week to get anywhere near recouping his wages , unlikely

    I'm sure the 19 bazillion quid will take the edge off, but it must sting a bit that he's signing for a Saudi nobody club while his arch nemesis just lifted the World Cup. He's a great player but a dodgy human being, so I'm not bothered.

    Typically the profit margin for the club on shirt sales is only around 10 to 15%. So if the shirts are £60 and the club are getting £10 a shirt, to cover wages the sales would need to be 300,000 a week or 15,000,000 a year.

    Big winner on shirt sales is the manufacturer hence why shirt deals for the big clubs are so lucrative.
