I am still of the belief that our manager isn't selecting players based on ability. Our 'captain' makes more errors than most, and to my eyes offers very little - yet he is never dropped. Young Stones is going to make mistakes, it's natural. But surely you rest him? Especially with a player like Hassell available. But no, and even when he did rest him at Derby, he played a LB there in Kennedy - why? Etuhu and Done look a league or two out of their depth this term, and in his cameo yesterday, Reuben offered more than the pair of them have done all season - time he got a proper run, and up top or central at least, where he's meant to play. . I'm not suggesting we'll win games or do much better with these changes, but I would like to see regular under-performers replaced where possible. It's only fair. . I don't subscribe to the theory that Davies is the answer, though. We are a better side with him in it, but nothing I saw yesterday makes me think we are just missing a forward. To me, there seems a lack of bottle amongst this squad, and an unwillingness to roll up their sleeves and fight. They drop off far too often, and regularly seem a yard behind the play. I mean, how many times did our players yesterday give up on a ball, that was there to be won, or kept in play. Too often they seemed asleep. Individuals in most parts, not working as a unit. This isn't about money. A manager isn't there purely to spend. He should coach, encourage, instill discipline, and above all else, motivate them. Unfortunately, I see little evidence of that right now, and can only point to around a dozen games in Keith's tenure where things seemed to be working/progressing. If what we are doing under Keith is building, then I am not sure I want to know what the final build looks like. The foundations are seemingly built on quicksand, and he's using the wrong tools. S'all abart money though, so they would have you believe... . I enjoyed a rare West Stand Upper experience, though. Most folk seemed to be losing faith in there, and a woman behind me gave a running commentary throughout. I can still hear her prattling on about Golbourne's haircut now. Me, I was more concerned by his inability to cross. She kept calling Dawson 'Stevie', and Etuhu 'Kev'. I hope she's there next home game. . I still don't want Keith sacked. But I'd like sumat to change tactically, and for him to play our strongest team, whilst getting the fans onside. Only one winner if he keeps battling against us - the jobcentre. I think we have a squad capable of avoiding the drop, if we keep our key laikers fit, play to their strengths, and unite together as one. Unfortunately, I won't be expecting much change. I just hope that next weekend it isn't Butterfield that gets their winner, bless him. Up The Tarn, King Keith, The Don, Endeavour, DNA, 21st.
Good post Andy. I'm hoping we bring somebody in this week, I don't think we're too far away from being a decent side but if we get sucked in to real relegation battle then I agree with you I just don't see any fight in the team. Very concerned.
Sorry but being 4th from the bottom, with Ipswich starting to move, means we are in a relegation battle, not waiting to get sucked into one !!
It's still a bit too early to call it a relegation battle. It's January onwards when the squeaky bums start and we always do really well after Xmas
