    Wouldn't say he's asked for a transfer though.

    "Hayes is in the final year of his contract and he confirmed that another move might be on the cards. 'I'm happy to sit down with them and discuss a new contract. But if a good offer comes in for me and Barnsley decide to accept it that would be different. I've been told that Southend put a bid in for me but it was turned down.'"

    We all know the Southend bid was reported to be £100k and was consigned to the bin almost before it landed on Gordon's desk. This is another instance where we should be talking to players, and Ritchie come to that, now rather than wait 'til they've only got 6 months left and someone else nips in.

    I admire the way Mr.Shepherd is going about things generally but sometimes you can be too cautioius. I'm not saying do it the Ridsdale way and mortgage your granny's grave in a desparate bid for promotion but we have to be brave and go for it or we could be back down with the Pikeys before we know it!

    He signed a three year contract so still got this season and next yet!!

    Personally I would sign him up towards end of this season and get Howard signed up now on a 3 year deal with Disco giving another 1/2 years also!!
