so as we thought, offered him the bare minimum so we get a fee. never really made my mind up about Hayes, wouldn't be very sorry to see him go.
We wouldn't have bothered offering a contract if he was Davey obviously doesn't want him. We're only offering the contract so we can get a fee.
If he doesn't sign for anyone until after his birthday then I guess he would be a free agent. That way, everyone loses out.
This must be Simon's idea (rather than Gordon's) Remember, Mr Shepherd has clearly stated (in his most recent interview with radio sheffield) that he never discusses "players" with the manager. The manager generates a sheet of A4 with a load of names on it and the chairman does his level best to sign them up. Paul Hayes' name must be on that list and Simon must therefore want to keep him. What makes the lad think he deserves an increase on his previous deal? There seems to be a firm offer on the table, so if I was him, I'd get it signed and knuckle down to some hard work ...
Let him go He isn't good enough for the Championship. We need strikers with pace, power, aggression, and ability who'll chase shadows for 90 minutes. Hayse is a skillful player, but he is not complete enough to cut it at Championship level. Same goes for those released this summer, with the possible exception of Kay who has called the clubs bluf once too many times over the final months of he season. (by the way, it could just have easily been another 1st 11 regular who was shown the door for the same reason. Maybe player x is too popular though!)
