Davey said: "We sent him out to get some games because he wasn't in the side. "Huddersfield came in for him and we thought it would be good for Paul to play some games at that level. "We've now recalled him from his month's loan because it's a seven- game run-in and we need all hands to the pump." Davey reported a smooth build-up to Saturday's clash with promotion-chasing Derby. He also hopes that Grant <div id="ds-mpu"></div>McCann comes through his Northern Ireland exertions unscathed. Said the Reds chief: "International players need to go and play these games. "You always keep your fingers crossed that they come through ok." Barnsley Reserves ran high-flying Birmingham close after an equaliser by Marc Richards at Oakwell. But the Reds were beaten 2-1 because of goals by Matt Birley and Nick Wright. The win put Birmingham within three points of Pontin's League leaders Nottingham Forest. Birley put them ahead after two minutes but Barnsley levelled two minutes later. A Ritchie Jones corner forced the chance, and Richards shot home from six yards. Birmingham regained the lead after nine minutes with a shot from Wright. Barnsley Res: Letheren, Harban, Smith (Waterfall 45), Potter, Atkinson, Mattis (Holt 83), McGrory (Butterfield 45), Jones, Richards, Nardiello, Coulson.
